Had a friend after high school had the E-body shifter. Switching it to another E-body, he said he liked how it felt. Instead of using everything he thought the unit itself made it feel good, so he cut the pistol grip stick at the base instead of slipping the stick off using feeler gauges slipping in the unit. CRAZY!!!! He felt stupid after finding out what he did wrong.

Use a feeler gauge down each side and it will help.

@ShadeTreeVintageAuto I tried last night. I can only get them in about 3/4 of an inch on each side and don't know if that's enough. I sprayed it up with some wd40 last night so I'm gonna try round 2 today.

@@ShadeTreeVintageAuto ball bark figures for the 1969-75 charger's bench/no console handle +wood ( ok with plastic just need the shapes so i can do mockup as i have been eyeing a redwood-California or south American rosette wood set in dark red/pearlescent finish, the top im going to see if i can adaptation for the 2014 C7 shift pattern/logo parts instead of the 1970 4-speed logos ect ) or ivory and rod and sweged-type receiver as im considering using one on a modified chevy 2012 SS hurst remote shifter and boot+trimming's in my 67-70 gen-2 hemi ( not real j/X vin it's a G/H and started off as a 727 F8 car ) charger im TR6060/TR6070 swaping boot/rod down looks good it's the handle ( tried the 1968 c10-spare's and 2012 chevy with a 15-24" exstenchon-pipe/rod bent backwards/correctly nope ugly work's though ) i could use some additional advice on making look right/driver's feel as it's my daily aka not completely sold on having pistol shifter, but looks like the easy way out to fixing it 👍 don't need prefect 👌parts ( higher quality repop's and or places to look for them will do as well as i don't need date codes ect. ) as a starting points as unfortunately im going to need to use the liquid wench/tig welder 👨🏭 on them to fit my mods ( generally i don't like prematurely modifying antiquates/OEM-rare parts but looks like i might be forced into it, ps car got messed up bad so i cannot put it back to OEM as the numbered-parts are missing permanently ) as the boot is under the dashboard in the middle of the transmission hump and by the firewall 90*-up/next to the bell housing, but i will need them good enough to recrome/for final assembly finsh trimmings
