The buzz started by just blowing and connecting the the mpc to the horn is a Bill Adam thing and Adam student taught me. Doc Reinhardt taught the breath “attack” too.

All episodes I´ve seen so far are really great - will need to re-watch them a few times to digest everything. I want to thank you that you took the suggestion from a comment to one of the previous episodes serious and eliminated the background music. Much better w/o IMHO.

well, not completely eliminated, but quite a reduced volume (still some room for improvement 😉)

Really interesting section on the direction of the breath. I'm currently away from the trumpet, eating cheese and drinking wine! I shall look at this tomorrow. I've heard the no air attack explained a different way, (just can't remember at this point) but to the same out come. Fantastic video. Thanks for sharing your knowledge.

Hi Ryan, thanks for another amazing lesson!!! I completely gave up trumpetplaying after my first year at conservatory, switched to singing. I got completely stuck so that "playing" trumpet was just struggling and I could not even play over one octave. Now, 35 years later I want to overcome those blockakes which could have been avoided. After buying an old Selmer trumpet I started practising a bit and found some helpfull videos on YT, fe Jon Ruff and Charly Porter and your shares. It is of great value to see your shares, you show elementary pieces to the puzzle, brassplayers cope with, so please keep sharing your lessons, highly appreciated. One of my biggest mistakes, I guess, was playing with wrong (low) tongposition which made (still does as I'm restarting..). Reaching high notes was more a matter of luck than principle. Thanx again, best from Berlin

Thank you, Paul. So happy to hear that you are rediscovering the trumpet again :-) As you are coming back to the horn, I wouldn't worry too much about tongue level, other than allowing it to be relaxed. (For many, when when we relax the tongue, it naturally rests along the inside of the upper molars, which works well for trumpet playing.) Other than that, singing in your mind while you allow yourself to make LOTS of mistakes will go a long ways to help you develop. From the looks of things, the singing part won't be hard for you :-) Kind regards from Utah! Ryan

So since yesterday I stumbled upon your videos and I just applied this exhale to point 0 and then try to play some notes. Well it feels like magic. I can hit my high notes (just around D above the staff) easier and cleaner! Is this all because of the bernulli principle that you mentioned on the turkey experiment? Or is it just because without much air I am forced to engage my belly? I wonder. I tried to do some of my excercises in a similar manner and I have higher accuracy on notes and louder, and without getting too tired. I wonder how to move forward with not having to stop, breathe in, breathe out (to point 0) and then play. If I think of tempo and get stressed I totally lose control. I love all your videos and I will come back to them, I think they're a treasure. I've been playing for about 4,5 years, I really like to progress and avoid all the struggles and fighting with overblowing etc. Your videos really are aldeady helping and will help me overcome those obstacles. Again, thank you so very much sir and wish you all the best!

Hi Ryan thanks again this is also great material... (Still harvesting results from your focal points idea, but realized that I left the air mechanism limp if you know what I mean, I've been playing a couple months with very little air coming from upper chest...) Now, getting back to airflow.. I want to ask you, yes exhaling is relaxing, but blowing on the other hand, seems and feels tense. Are you saying I should just exhale every Note? Thanks!
