It is just unbelievable how many parallels you can draw between the fourteen hundreds and current day. Also I love the rooster in the background. That is the most caribbean thing

I like your videos, you're a good teacher. Overall I think your teaching is fair and well considered, such as pointing out the impact of the Ottomans, etc. To give some important context to this era, it's important to point out that the Spanish had been invaded and colonized by the Romans for hundreds of years, then the Goths and then the Muslims for about seven hundred years. There was great cruelty involved in these conquests and the colonization of Spain for over a thousand years. They had just become independent. Pointing this out might help us all see a bit more of our common humanity and add some depth. Keep up the great work.

You are a natural teacher. Thanks for always breaking the events in sequence and years in a timeline. Very helpful in understanding the events. I always wondered if Tainos , Mayas,etc, were around at the same time, and you clear my doubts...😊

excuse me what does people mean by settlement pattern
@IslandUplift3 жыл бұрын
The term "Settlement Patterns" refers to the various ways in which different people groups would occupy, move within, and even leave a particular land space (in this case, the Caribbean region) over a period of time.

worth mentioning that before the 1490s, european countries didnt round the cape of africa, they didnt know the way, they used the overland routes, until the Ottoman Empire heavily taxed the Dardanelles and passage through Constantinople/ Kostantiniyye, which is what led to european naval exploration, to get around the Ottoman monopoly on the trade routes, so europeans wouldnt have used ships to get to China in the 1200s and 1300s, Arab traders brought it to Egypt or Anatolia, there the Republics of Venice and Genoa would continue
