Welcome to a new series of videos, telling my story around figuring out the truest version of my personal style. There is a lot of content out there, and I don't have all the answers, nor do I think there is a finite number of steps to be truly content with your wardrobe - if if that's even possible? What I do have a is a story. I've had a career in fashion, as a designer, stylist, pattern cutter and now as a reworked fashion designer and champion of slow fashion and buying second hand. Along with that I've been through a series of lifestyle changes as I went from a small town, to a big city, to the beach on my doorstep in South Africa and now I live on a boat in the UK! In this series I'll take you through how I have found, and continue to reaffirm my confidence in my personal style and how it relates to my lifestyle changes as well as I how to stay content with what I own and purchase.
I am no minimalist, and I definitely am always looking for ways to keep my wardrobe feeling fresh and modern and to keep my style moving forward, evolving - I need to be inspired by the clothing and outfits that I wear. It's hard to navigate this while also staying conscious of the impact fashion and our consumption of it has on the outside world. There is so much to think about and lots more to say here, buuuut, I'm just one gal, bobbing about on a boat and trying my best! That's where we start, by trying to make change - here's how I do that..
I hope you enjoy and find some relatable and useful takeaways!
I upcycle and rework second men's shirts and blazers in my spare time and you can shop and support my sustainable fashion venture here: www.melissamun...

Oh my gosh! I could hug you right now! As a personal stylist, I feel like I say this to women at least three or four times a week! They will come out of the room and say, “is this flattering on me’’ ? And, I will know that they look amazing, but is it showing off their waist? Is it creating an hour less figure? Is it making them look slim?! No, but it doesn’t always have to! I could not agree more that your own personal style Will improve dramatically when you let go of that need for your clothes to “flatter” you!

@@serenesineath I can relate! It’s not easy being a stylist - I used to do mostly campaigns for a clothing company before I moved which is much easier - models don’t have a say what they wear and are easy to dress - earlier this year I moved to London and did about three months as a Personal Stylist at John Lewis and it was so hard to not be able to say certain things to clients, knowing they may not be ready to hear it.. I think there’s so much freedom in letting go of trying to create the perfect body shape with our clothes.. but of course we’re all at different stages aren’t we? I totally applaud you for the work you do - I think it’s highly underrated for how hard it can be and women need it for soooo many reasons - bravo!🫶🏻👏🏻

Hi fabulous Melissa! I love your intelligent approach to your videos - I 💯 agree that we should be wearing what we love and feel great in rather than this flattering business .. as a much older woman (62) it’s what I’m doing more than ever and you are an inspiration! Thank you for giving me the lift I needed today! Donna from Australia 🧚‍♀️❤️🐝
