Great podcast. From the moment I first heard Lagwagon, a show at EMOs in Austin, i was in love. They have been my favorite band ever since. I remember driving home from a show at the Backroom in Austin listening to LTAF and instantly being obsessed with May 16th. Everything about it pulled me in. I have listened to this song more than any other song ever. It's my go to song for when I feel super bummed. It has bulled me out of some dark places. A lot of Lagwagon and Joey songs have. I wonder if these guys know how much they truly mean to some people? I am thankful for all of these bands for everything and helping me grow and learn and thrive.

Hope this is okay to share,, I remember Joey Cape doing an interview many years ago regarding May 16. Can’t locate it now but he had blue hair. Anyway, in that interview he was more candid about the track’s inspiration. The friend that he had a falling out with got married that day and, due to the discord, J Cape was “uninvited” to the wedding, making it “just another Saturday.” I may not be getting this 100% correct but I def recall the gist and I felt sharing was worthwhile. Will continue to look for an actual citation and update if found.

This is pure GOLD! Absolutely loved every minute of the interview! Beyond Tony Hawk’s game and the popularity it brings to this song in particular, I’ve always found ‘May 16th’ special. The composition, Joey’s voice, and the lyrics are just spot on! It’s melodic and nostalgic, yet always surprises me with new elements I discover throughout the years. Especially the guitars and how they blend together perfectly. That’s probably the secret sauce of Lagwagon songs and why their productions are so interesting in this genre. I didn’t even notice the voice harmony arrangement, that’s cool!

Best stage dive from a band i ever saw was Todd the Rod from Propagandhi in Portland. They were playing a song and his bass stopped working. He tried to fix it for about 10 seconds and said "Fuck it" and dived in the crowd for the rest of the song. EPIC!!!
