Hi there. I am a Knit Companion user too. It does sync between devices but you have to close the pattern you’re working on, which takes you back to the main page. Click the 3 dots in the bottom right under the pattern photo. Click the icon third from the right. This will sync with Dropbox, but you first have to have a Dropbox account. The reason it can’t sync otherwise is that Apple probably won’t let them use iCloud to do it.

Hi Maggie. The Holst Garn Supersoft saga continues as several other knitters have informed me their yarn has not shrunk with washing so now I'm thoroughly confused. I've compared several variables (# of strands used, cone vs. ball, colours, stitch pattern, washing technique) and it just doesn't seem to make sense. I guess in the end my recommendation would be to knit a sizeable gauge swatch and make sure wash it and measure it before venturing to use this yarn. Happy Making 💕

@KnittingWithCatHair Жыл бұрын
Aww thanks Julie 🥰 Yes, I find it tricky to get gauge with Nutiden as well, especially since colours can vary greatly in thickness (I had to hold 3 strands of Korsbeneja together to get gauge for my Wild Posy!) I generally just try to get as close as possible and then alter pattern size as needed. So far it's worked out ok 😂

Thanks so much sweet Megha 🥰 Sounds like quite a few of us have had these types of issues. To be honest I don't think I've ever taken the time to measure my arm circumference but now I'm determined to take all my measurements to ensure I tweek patterns to get a good fit for my own body. Highly recommend Susan B. Anderson's patterns as they are very well-written and a joy to make! Happy Making 💕
@asimplelifeknits2 жыл бұрын
Yeah Nikki, the grading for sleeves when I was a 47 inch chest was always an issue with my generic arm circumference. Now though, with my small chest, the grading assumes I have very small arms to match. I think that's why I'm gravitating towards a drop sleeve construction as its easier to flip up and down sizes within the pattern. The whole issue drives me potty. Lovely to see you. 💕
@KnittingWithCatHair2 жыл бұрын
Thanks for confirming this issue Michelle! I think I personally need to start taking a more mathematical approach to my knits to make sure I get the fit I want. For instance, I don't think I've ever measured my arm circumference before but this is really making me want to gain a better grasp of all my own measurements as opposed to just using my bust circumference and counting on patterns to accomodate me. Hope you are well and enjoyig a gentle start to 2023 💕

Your observations on sleeve sizing are very interesting - because I've come to a similar (but opposite) conclusion. I find the arms are generally tighter than what I'd prefer yet I have all this excess fabric in the torso. I keep telling myself that for my next top-down sweater I'll split sleeves from body and allocate more stitches to the sleeves. Thanks for another great episode Nikki! I am going to sign up for your Slack group; on my list of things to do.
@KnittingWithCatHair2 жыл бұрын
Thanks for sharing Krista! After reading numerous comments from others who've experienced fit issues, I'm starting to realize that it's important for me to have a greater understanding of ALL my body measurements instead of simply relying on bust circumference. This way I can make necessary modifications to a garment pattern instead of assuming it will accomodate me. This has been a real lightbulb moment for me and it's all thanks to viewers like yourself who have taken the time to share your experiences. How nice to wake up to a new episode! As mentioned below, I had also seen Tayler of Wool Needles Hands speak highly of the Fisherman's Wool...then lately I kind of stumbled across some in a store and it was on sale so I bought some. As for the different dye lots, shame on them! Twice I've had shops say they would have to include a different dye lot, they'd send me a picture, then it was up to me whether or not I wanted to place the order. I've had Knit Companion for a while but rarely used it....this year I want to commit to using it more and I'm enjoying it. I need to look into what other functions it has. I'm a bit nervous now, though, after hearing of your experience....I wonder if I'll be ok if I don't accept any updates 🤔.

What a lovely podcast - but also; why have I not found your channel before?! I am reluctant to pay £15 a year for an app that doesn't sync, so I use Knitting & Crochet Buddy for tracking row, repeat and chart progress and Adobe Acrobat for pdf files. I don't pay for Acrobat, but I'm still able to highlight text, make notes and write and draw on the document,so for me it's gold. The edits stay in the document, so if I've highlighted a size for myself and then decide to knit the pattern again for someone else (or maybe my size has changed and I want to knit it again for myself), the changes are easily removed, but I usually have another copy of the pattern backed up somewhere. I have been using these two in tandem for so long now that it would be almost impossible for me to change lol! I look forward to your next episode - so glad I found you! Shelly

You have some gorgeous new sweaters, Nikki! As for Knit Companion, I have the free app, don't use it - all those hieroglyphs that I don't know what they are, so I should watch a Very Pink tutorial. However, I usually print out patterns and scrawl all over them and manage quite well that way. I do have a problem, though, with patterns that are too pretty with pictures all over the place that I don't want to print 'cos it wastes paper and toner ink. Some designers are environmentally considerate and keep pattern pages tidy with print on a few pages and pictures on the others so you can print just text. The sound was just fine with your phone, I didn't even hear the neighbour. Kitty meows are lovely.

Hi Nicky, I started making the Savan and finished the first sleeve but as you said even though it was suggested you could shorten the arm length there were no suggestions for adjusting for a more feminine shaped shoulder. I tried Knit Companion briefly - not for me. I'm a paper and pencil on a clipboard person. And a notebook for project notes. We have five cats too - couldn't tell if it was yours or mine making noise!

Can you share with me how your friend washes her Holts Garn sweater? I’ve washed mine now three times and it still hasn’t shrunk. I knit it in pieces in stockinette stitch in the front has a large crocheted insert. I believe I knit it at six stitches per inch.
@KnittingWithCatHair2 жыл бұрын
Hi Edina. I washed the back piece of my Daffodil by soaking it in luke-warm water with some Soak. I measured the piece before I put it in the water and then measured it after and it shrunk by several inches. I then agressively blocked it to proper measurements but it's since shrunken up again. Was your sweater knit single-stranded or held double with itself or another yarn? I'm wondering if that makes any difference given the varied experiences people seem to have with this yarn.
@edinacole63822 жыл бұрын
@@KnittingWithCatHair I knit single strand but it was in stockinette stitch, not lace. I also knit another sweater with one strand of SuperSoft and one strand of Silk Mohair. Another project was a cabled Kim Hargreaves scarf that is over 5 feet long. It was knit with one strand of SuperSoft, and one strand of alpaca. And the "matching" hat was knit with SS, Alpaca and sport weight Harrisville Designs Shetland wool (bulky knit). I have two other projects with Supersoft that I have not washed yet. All the others have been washed. When I knit my initial sample/swatch I washed vigorously in water hot to my hands. No change in size at all. So I am really pondering what the difference is. My Supersoft yarns are different colors so, its not the color that could be the cause, but I am really stumped! Oh, and I never vigorously block my projects, nor do I pin them to anything. I just put them in a laundry bag and place in the washer on the rinse/spin cycle, then lay on the bed to dry.

@@edinacole6382 Wow! I honestly have no idea why people have such different experiences with this yarn. Hmmm...did you knit from cones or balls? Seriously racking my brain here as there must be some sort of explanation 🤪

@@KnittingWithCatHair Cones, I only a bit of colorwork was from balls. I prefer cones over balls for all of my knitting

From what I’ve observed with other knitters, we need sizes more like in the sewing world where a top size has bust adjustments. So you might make a medium or large size but adjust the bust. I’m not experienced enough to do this myself yet but it might be the future of knitting?

The bunnies are adorable, but how do you make the ears so stiff and also the neck so the head doesn’t wobble? Thanks! Lovely podcast!
@KnittingWithCatHair2 жыл бұрын
Thanks Ann 🥰 I followed Susan B. Anderson's directions to a tee and it worked out perfectly. There isn't much of a neck as the body is attached directly to the head by picking up stitches. Similarly the ears are created by picking up 2 parallel rows of stitches on either side of a garter ridge and knitting across them. The ears are also tacked at the base to pinch them in and that probably provides more stability. Susan's a genius! Happy Making 💕

Honestly I never trust that kind of app. I keep notes on ravelry itself, and keep screenshots of my charts so I can note where I am on them just using my phone's markup tool. But I've always preferred to just use the mobile browser version of things rather than use an app, which I know makes me an outlier! Also it's kind of funny -- I have a skein of that oatmeal Fisherman's yarn too, but I use it for dye samples.

Thanks for sharing Micah! I was using a pdf-writer to mark-up my patterns for awhile but found that it wasn't reliably saving my mark-ups hence the recent switch back to Knit Companion. But I will always keep a sticky note back-up because I'm highly untrusting of technology now 😂
