Man this is soooo helpful, even if a bit confusing. I got offered a joint venture a while back, but I had no idea what type of deal it was. I don’t have any company or employees so if this video is right, there’s no way I’d be able to make money off it lmao. The man told me I had to go out and push the album myself. No way 1 person is gonna blow up off street sales!!!

Sounds like you made the right decision. But my question is, what was the person who offered the deal was going to be doing case you're doing all the marketing and promoting yourself. Sounds like they just trying to eat off your hard work.

Nah thats a good deal if the company gives upfront money. Which is highly likely since they would be paying into your company. All you had to was pay for an llc and/or trademark.

Start your own label or production company. Save a couple of hundred bucks to get an LLC and legitimize said company. Do your best to build your OWN buzz on social media and locally. Give away FREE MUSIC AND MERCHANDISE. People have to understand that it takes YEARS to breakthrough in the music industry. Unless, of course, you want instant fame or success, in which case most people sell out, sell their souls or make music that is hip and popular to the current times and generations. If you have no desire to do any of the latter things, then you'll have to build your OWN brand. In the end, it will be worth it.

So, basically, if record sales is your only/primary income, a 360 is the best deal. Can you make a video that includes performance and/or endorsement money?

Amari T Ball hey I did one in this series that talks about show money and merch. And in the end. It's all about a good deal! Your leverage will determine your ability to negotiate. It's hard to make a blanket statement that will apply to every situation. Say your a buzzing but have no real leverage - then yes 360 will likely pay more if your streams are high. High streams means you make a lot of hits or you make the type of album that people like to listen to over and over. If you get a hit every now and then and your albums only have a few songs people love then 360 is not for you.

The thing about 360 deals is that they have 100% control over your likeness that they can have you in the studio recoding all the time and doing shows for 10- 11 months out the year to just do it over again and again and again. 360 deals aren't new and they were the standard in the 60's and they went out of style because too many artist are tired and broke

You're getting played if your manager is getting 20% you gotta know your worth

20% is standard. You'll be lucky to find somebody for 15%. And you can't expect much from someone who charges 15%. A manager who charges 15% is good to start out with, but you gon have to cough out 20 to 30% if you want a manager that can get you great endorsements and opportunities.

Is it common for Labels to sign JV deals with production companies even though they aren't technically actual recording labels

The short answer: Its common but the production company will usually create a label to do this type of deal. But its also really common for Production companies to sign Song Deals, Pub deals or other and avoid starting a label. Long Answer: I'm dropping it on Ask Sirr love. Its a 6min response.
