One of the FAQs I receive weekly in DMs is: “How do you handle solo-parenting when your husband is gone?”
And while I know that everyone’s solo-parenting circumstances are different, there are some core principles that can help shift your mindset from “woe is me!” (been there) to “I’ve got this” (in Christ’s strength). Is so important to actively look for ways to thrive rather than simply survive!
I share some of the things that have helped me most in this episode, and I’ll talk more about ways the Lord has grown my maturity + resourcefulness in this area in part 2. Enjoy!

Thank you thank you thank you. I have two kids under age 5 and my husband works 3pm-4am, so Saturday and Sunday afternoons are the only times I am not parenting alone and I haven't seen many bigger Christian voices speaking into HOW to do this well.

Thank you for your encouragement! I'm also quite curious how do you balance the being in control while your husband is away, and then relinquishing some of that control when he comes back. ❤

Thanks for addressing this, Abbie! My husband has worked away from home 2 weeks on and 2 weeks off for the past two years. It has been a character and faith building journey for sure, especially through a pregnancy and now with 5 children between 10 years and 3 months old. I find everything you mentioned to be very helpful in our situation as well. I have been really blessed by both of your books and have gifted several copies to friends. Thanks for your ministry.

Thank you for addressing this! As the wife of a Coastguard, we love it when he's home and then 50% of the time I'm on my own. It's a different mindset when you know no one is coming home to rescue you at dinner time!

This was a great episode! My husband doesn't travel for work, but he is occasionally gone for weekends serving in a Ministry. I started out with a self - pity attitude, but have learned to embrace the challenges. This was such great encouragement! ❤Thank you for the time you devote to encouraging mothers!

This is a topic very dear to my heart. I’m a mom of 4,expecting baby #5, and my husband is a fire captain here in our state of CA which is very busy, especially in the summer. This will be our 3rd baby born in July so I’m gearing up for that. Of the 19 years we’ve been married he’s been gone for half. I know the wives who have husbands that are deployed are alone much longer and that keeps me going when my husband is gone for weeks at a time. We’ve learned much better rhythms over the years but I wish I would have known them sooner.

My husband has been in the midst of law school and working for the past three years as we have gone from a married couple to a family of 4. He is wonderful, helps where and when he can, but there have been plenty of long, exhausting stretches alone. Thank you!

Oh, man. This was such a relatable episode. My husband travels too. When he’s not traveling, he works from home. We save our big painting projects and the like for when he’s traveling. Because who cares if the kids are being a little louder while some of us are painting or redoing a room? Dad’s not home on a client call. Or we’ll do our multi day messy projects when he’s gone. Same reason. :). Then it’s done and he gets to see the end result.
