Brian: Game changer for me: I now pack a 1/8” closed cell foam pad. 4’x7’. Super light. Packs “pretty” small. So nice to have plenty of ground cloth/pad for camping in Floorless shelter or tent. I still use sleeping pad, but my 1/8” pad is almost comparable in weight to my old Tyvek ground sheet!

Love the content and how light you can keep your pack. I'm heading back to alaska and i'm trying to minimize my pack and i'm curious why you don't pack a cot for these long hunts? It's nice for getting off the ground especially on the tundra!
@GrittyGearAndPodcast
@GrittyGearAndPodcast 2 жыл бұрын
We just use a ground tarp and a nice backpacking air pad. We have been doing this for years and years. It's very comfortable and light weight. Most cots will add 1-1.5lbs at least. That's extra weight that we don't need and sleep great on the air pads. Thank you for tuning in and supporting us!

Brian - SAM XT tourniquet. A host of reason but primary’s are: easy of self application, and does not rely on hook and loop, which in the backcountry could get muddy/wet/clogged.

Brian- gathered from your a statement (“ locally owned here in Utah”) that you live somewhere in Utah. Seems like your video hunts are mostly conducted in Idaho and Montana. Do you hunt public lands in Utah for elk and mule deer? Seems like there would be some nice opportunities perhaps closer to home.

Brian, just curious if you know what the Grakksaw game bags are actually made of. Their website just says Nylon blend, that’s as vague as any supplement saying “proprietary blend!” Clearly they work well for you though. Looking to upgrade game bags, I’ve traditionally used “Alaska game bags” but once used I trash them plus the elk bags (4) . weigh right around 25-26 oz not even in the cheap plastic bag they come in. Thoughts and opinion?

What are your thoughts on using the 6.5 RPM for elk? I've always been a bigger is better kind of guy but those 6.5 bullets remind me of the .257; they just seem to put game down. Still leaning more towards my win mag for elk though. Glad you're feeling better hope you have a great rest of the hunting season!

Hey there. So we have since moved away from the Black Diamond head lamp. It is an ok headlamp, but it isn't rechargeable. We started using the Peax Equipment head lamp and it is incredible. So how has your fittness kept up with the sickness
@GrittyGearAndPodcast
@GrittyGearAndPodcast 2 жыл бұрын
Great question. My sickness began around September 3rd and went to October 1st. I began running and lifting weights on October 5th. My lungs were fine. I didn’t suffer from fatigue. My recovery was really good. The only residual effect I have (as far as I can tell) is a slight cough after a 5 mile run and I’m still coughing up junk on each run. I don’t feel sick or anything-but the flem is super annoying-I compare it to a person who has a slight pollen allergy. I think it’s going to clear up in a few more weeks of hiking. Honestly, I wouldn’t know I have any flem to cough up if I didn’t run. I think the exercise is accelerating my recovery.
