The coolest thing I've seen from any Kiss member in a long time was Peter's living room performance of one of the songs. He was so happy. The whole thing lacked any pretentious b.s. that often accompanies Kiss stuff.

I got this as a kid in 1978. It needed to grow on me, but I did like it then, still do.. I was really happy to find Peter's last show here on YT that has many songs from this record. Still can sing!! I enjoy the 2 of you discussing all these records

The two of you have done an excellent job of reviewing this album of Peter Criss. It is my favorite album of the 4 solos. I loved every song, and unlike you Mike, I just love That's the Kind of Sugar Papa Likes. I feel like so many of the songs, they just make me move. As for the soft songs, I enjoy their more peacefulness too as I feel they mix in nicely. Ace's album has some kick butt tunes, including my favorite KISS song- NY Groove, but song to song, I feel Peter's gets more of my votes.

I had picked up "Best of Solo Albums" from Kmart when I was a Kid, it was a foreign cassette release that I just couldn't believe I found at Kmart, but in any case, I played the heck out of that thing ... and I never took any notice, as I really love all kinds of music if it's done well. I thought all the songs & all the styles ran very well together and I really loved & enjoyed all of the members songs. Its like they have a solo record for every mood ... Just Like I Enjoy the Diversity of the Elder, Dynasty & Unmasked. It's Like ... What Better Than Having All These Styles of Music From Your Favorite Band, All Depends on My Mood ... But I Really Enjoy Peter's Album as Well as the Rest, Ect. And I Agree with Alot of the Previous Comments ... You Just Gotta Do What U Luv, if U Believe In It ... Rock It !!! :) ( And Peter's Last Performances Were Amazing & Great, Just Awesome !!! ) *** I Can't Stop the Rain !!! *** - Luv ... "Thats the Kinda Sugar Papa Likes" !!! ~ Amazing Tune, Just Dig It !!!

Great review Mike & Vinnie! Peter Criss’s solo Record is such an underrated record for me it’s right up there with Paul’s if you understand peters record properly he definitely has the best voice and Kiss and actually Peter saved KISS on Destroyer to throw a little more frosting on the cake he deserves way more credit than he gets also for playing drums he was a madman back in the day and nobody was better than Peter through 75 to 77 I stand with both Mike & Vin Peter was one of my heroes as well! Also out of all the KISS Solo’s my Dad and Mom really enjoyed Peter’s record and took a liking to it! God Bless my Parents and Peter Criss

Back in ‘78 I was at the peak of my KISS obsession and while this album was very different and not something I’d consider a standard KISS album it was by Peter and gave a bit of insight into his music. I appreciated that difference. I know my obsession gave me a bias to the album as today I rarely listen to it but as you guys mentioned a few of the songs still hold up really well at taking me back to that connection to Peter.

This is the one that grew on me.... I accept it for what it is. That's where Peter was personally in his life at the time. If you're looking for the Cat Man persona you won't find it on here. This is more of a rhythm and blues album almost honky tonk at times. It's a good album .

Didn't care for this album when I got it Christmas 1978 but like a lot of older fans it grew on me as I got older and I love it now.

Joey Travolta’s version of “You matter to me” wasn’t released until November 1978, it was the 3rd single off the album. I’m not sure what date Peter’s was released as a single but I would imagine it would have been right around the same time……Casablanca were definitely looking for a radio hit with that one and struck out twice.

Speaking of the Donnie Most record, Donnie was in an episode of Chip's, episode "Red Devil Rock" where he is basically in the Gene Simmons makeup just done in red.

“I can’t stop the rain” not only is my favorite song on Peter’s album but I will go as far as saying it’s a better song then “Beth” and if it had been released as a single I think it would have done really well.

Peter's record is probably the best record of the four. If it was pushed at its time and was not from a "Kiss" member it would and could have been huge. It is not a "Kiss" record in some ways and is in others. The problem as with Gene's and perhaps Paul's in a few songs is that it was not what some expected or wanted. It is a personal opinion clouded in expectations. I think all four are good records in their own right. I don't see them as Kiss records and I think that helps with enjoying them for what they are. Kiss never released a record that sounded like another one. That is what I love about Kiss.

Love your deep dive into a most polarizing Kiss-related album. Sounds like we are roughly the same age, and hearing other opinions and experiences is always a good thing. I got the Ace album that same Christmas and having already heard New York Groove, I loved everything else on that record. That being said, the Peter Criss album just never connected with me. I will always appreciate his contribution to early Kiss. He was a pretty good drummer with a great voice. Ultimately, good music is good music, and this album is sadly lacking. I am judging on the songs alone and not giving him a pass for being part of this band or "trying something new." I always ask myself, if you were to put a particular album by a particular artist on my turntable, with me having no idea who it was, would I like it? Just not good at all. Again, just my opinion. We all like what we like. Cheers!

I always felt Peter Criss’s record had sort of mid 70’s John Lennon/Ringo Starr solo record feel. It’s that horn based 50’s/early 60’s rock n roll done in the 70’s vibe. Also, like those mid 70’s Lennon albums (Rock n Roll, Walls and Bridges), Criss’ record utilized those LA session musicians.

Peter only have 6 credits (all with Penridge), basically from earlier projects. Nothing to do in a KISS record, but I like the album (not for KISS).
