I found that the Best way to put a live Christmas Tree in Room is ( I had ) to take a half Ping Pong Table ( as a platform - do-not use legs ) for a base with tree standing in middle, have an eyelet near back corner mounted' and tie one strong rope up 1/4 to 1/3 of tree then to eyelet, then it takes little time and strength to secure tight, with the only problem' being to back yourself out' after making rope tight, and a Cat will not be able to make tree fall-over ! Works great for putting gift boxes under tree on platform, and then next-to ! Highly recommend having water filled twice daily to hydrate tree to avoid fire hazard, don't recommend a live tree, but had no problem using 1 rope putting live tree in any corner, even the 12' trees I used to put in our living room !

I’m a 70+ year old grandmother and enjoy the story sharing in your videos! When your butchering discussions gets too graphic, I just fast forward through it. It’s nice to hear the lives of each one of you as they are different in some ways and the same in others. Learning a lot about life on the farms and how you deal with different situations. Goes to show how you’re never too old to learn. Thanks for sharing

Turkey on a spit is wonderful. If you're going to do it i remember family doing it with multiple types of birds on the spit at the same time. Chairs by the pit. Lots of wood stacked. Beer for the adults. Started before dawn. They rigged a cogfed spit turner that would do one way and then back the other. Of course to get it started required some cranking. Once the fire was started, coffee pot on the edge. Breakfast cooked over the same fire. While that was being done, the chores were being done. It was an all day family event. Infall or winter, not summer because it was too hot and, well, bears, coyotes, occasional wolf....you know how it is.

Ben listening to your story about your pig. I was wondering if he got into a bee hive, like yellow jackets that nest in the ground. We raise German Shepherds and had one get into a yellow jacket nest. He swelled up around the eyes. Other than that he ate and drank. A shot of benadryl helped the swelling go down and he is fine

Good morning guys! We grew up next to a Christmas tree farm. I'm while I agree they're very expensive many don't realize the triming and other maintenance to prepare for the "perfect" tree. I remember mom flocking it and we would cut out snowflakes to flock the windows.
@davidgetchell3633Ай бұрын
When you walk through a growing up pasture you look for just the right tree, it was NEVER "PERFECT" but it would do.
@4ClassieАй бұрын
Just plant 10 to 20 trees a year, it doesn't take much more work maintaining, it is just that maintenance is frequent, that way a few great trees are worthwhile every year when developed ! Would be a shame to have grown tree that looks scraggly !

Another great podcast. Ben, aspirin and Benadryl can be given to a pig. Be careful about dosage, check with your vet. Aspirin needs to be given with food so there are no stomach issues. Benadryl is good antihistamine; I have used it with my dogs for bee stings. It's great that it's eating and drinking well. Maybe just time is the answer too. Jason, if your chickens do peck at the plastic in the high tunnel, a fence about 6 inches inside the sides or even the electrified chicken fencing to keep them away. I know geese will really do a job on the plastic. Al, no idea how you get so much done outside with the low temps.

I raised pigs (and all the other animals) for my own farmshop... The most piglets one year was 129 😳 we sold lots as hog roasters that year. All our meat had to be processed at a licensed abattoir and ministry inspected. I have to say our pigs were spoiled as I was friends with a local dairy who is also a commercial distributor. Every week I'd go and pick up an F150 truck load of frozen milk 😁I kept a big chest freezer in the barn and defrosted over night each day. So our pugs were fed in milk and hay in the winter with a small amount of grain... Summer time it was pasture grass, milk and they'd still like hay 😁 pigs live hay, especially the fermented hay/silage hay. It's also great for their digestive system.

Al, I have worked at a butchers that made their own deli meats. The hot dog meat is a high fat content meat and it is made in a large mixer that mixes and cuts constantly, much like a super sized food processor. The trick is to let the meat process for longer than you would expect. We always hot smoked the hotdogs too, so they were super delicious. Ben, guarantee that the chicken meat was not breast meat unless it had a high amount of fat added as the breast meat is just to dry to successfully make into chicken loaf. Even the smoked chicken loaf we made was made out of thigh meat.

For cows, pigs, and sheep I have found an easy way to load them is to put the trailer in their areas and leave the door open. Do this 2-3 weeks before and start feeding them inside the trailer only (or giving them treats in the trailer). They will run in on butcher day if you do that.
