Please read the "heads up" in the description o this video. This video was made 4 years ago and this was the old SPC design. It was installed properly at the time. The updated design calls for the slug adaptor to be pressed in the opposite direction. Always install according to the instructions in the box. I've made an updated SPC upper control arm video here. It's for a 4Runner, but it's the same for a Tundra/Sequoia: kzbin.info/www/bejne/jmPQn4qcnJ6rb5o

The reason I like these videos is BECAUSE you don’t have every tool you need. Watching you is like working alongside a buddy...where part of the fun is figuring out how to get by with what you have. Full “shop” videos are good for an educational overview but I’m likely going to be just like you...on my front driveway with limited tools. 👌🏼👍🏼👏🏼.

@@1stgenoffroad I loved the video thank you so much for all the hard work much appreciated. On one note. That upper ball joint takes a special adapter for the Sequoia not found in the ball joint kits you get at the Autoparts store rent a tool. I went to 3 different ones looking for it. I like you, improvised. I cut the top off of the ball joint and pressed it out. A 2' or 3' cheater bar and penetrating oil greatly helps this process thanks for the great video Josh!!

Thank you for the detailed video! I believe that SPC may have updated the steering knuckle insert for the upper ball joint. On my 2006 Tundra the steering knuckle insert had a slot cut in it, and it was inserted from below the knuckle. With this new design, you could hammer it in with a rubber mallet instead of putting it in the freezer and pressing it in.

Something nice about the SPC upper arms over my total chaos... you have no clearance issues. When I installed my total chaos upper arms they would scrape the front of my upper strut mount when moving up and down. I had to break out the grinder and shave away some metal on the top front of it. Tried taking out as little as possible, but noticed that driving they still contacted a little. Had to go back and grind even more a week later. Actually just noticed another nice thing about the spc's, you could bolt the abs wiring back on to it. The chaos ones have nothing on it to bolt it up, so my abs wiring is just zip-tied to the back of the upper arm. For such a pricey and nice looking arm, the zip ties look a lil ghetto

I wouldn't use red locktite. In my experience as a automotive technician, red locktite can require you to have to heat the part up later with a blow torch to get it to release. Any bolts that need to be potentially removed in the future for service (a ball joint is a service item that generally is recommended to be replaced every 75K miles), you should use blue locktite and torque it to the factory specs.

Kind of a ridiculous question lol 🙃 What Jack is it that you’re using? I’ve watched this video enough that I think I wanna try tackling this now. I have an 05 Sequoia that’s got a level kit but it was just coil spacers. I just did my LBJs recently and it was actually easier than I thought (not entirely mechanically inclined, learned mostly on KZbin and Chilton’s manual, plus some good friends lol). Been wanting to do a suspension upgrade for a while but felt a little intimidated by doing a full suspension. Notice how the new UCA rotated freely after it was torqued in place? The stock one will not do that, you have to push hard on it to get it to move up and down because you are twisting the rubber bushings to get movement, not ideal. Want the same on the LCA, so new bushings needed there.

I'm not running any links front or rear. But if I was, I would use these front links: www.1stgenoffroad.com/store/p873/Suspension-Maxx-Extended-Sway-Bar-Links.html

Hey 1stgenoffroad. I got a 2002 Tundra and your shocks on the blue tundra look just like the ones I have on at the moment. Bushings are gone!!! I visited your site and saw you have set on there. what advice would you give if I start replacing suspension components? Would love to get my components replaced but just can't seem to find someone locally to do the work I want.. which is to replace the dang things. Truck is from TX, and now in Mi climate

Watch all ur Sequoia videos love it man..Keep it up !So I finally got my Sequoia last month it’s a 02 4x4 SR5 ...I bought a lift kit from ur site same as urs well actually my Icon comes with 650lbs spring and OME rear spring and shocks ,...so after installing it the back sits a little too high I would say an inch higher and I’m not digging it...Question the Icon coil overs is set at factory and ship to customers at 2.5?Would u recommend adjusting the spring or I’m thinking adding a 1inch spacers just to even out the stance....I will be ordering more stuff from ur site soon I’m eying on the bumper to...thanks man.

thanks for the video, this is going to help alot. Did you have any fitment/rubbing issues after the suspension upgrades running 285/70's?

No issues. Make sure you follow the instructions from SPC when pressing in the new slug/adaptor and ball joint. SPC has changed the design slightly.

Hey bud, congratulations on the new rig. Yes. This will work the same way on the 07. If you have air suspension, you'll have to convert to traditional coils and shocks so you can lift the rear enough to match the front.

okay. So there’s a 1” rake with these Sequoias. Can you set the rear to “high” all the time? The. You could adjust the Icons and set them at the 2” setting in the front and sit level.

When it comes to lower ball joints you should always make sure and even make it a big deal to go with genuine Toyota factory parts. Aftermarket parts don't last and can break (anytime), and this is one of the biggest mistake new owners of used Toyotas make. This is the reason the Toyotas get totaled. The only aftermarket would be race parts, like Marlinclawler's new IFS or a SAS.

Correct. I only use OE Toyota LBJs.

Pretty familiar with coilovers as far as lowering cars and setting dampening etc. I see there is a collar at the top of the spring. I am guessing that is to set pre-load? Looks like an allen key locks it in place?

And no block needed ever. Here's a link: www.1stgenoffroad.com/store/p676/ProEagle3TonBigWheelOffRoadJack.html

I have watched a couple other videos... the point there was not to lift the Sequoia using the aftermarket tubular control arms, because the main bolt holding the control arm is not a tight fit. After a year or two the can breaks. They also mentioned the ball joints , if not genuine Toyota, have slop in fit. Can you comment on that? Have these after market companies improved the design. I want to lift my Sequoia more then 2 inches. What height do you suggest? 3" 4" ??

Cool vid. Did you need to remove the 4 bolts holding the lbj to the spindle when putting the new coilovers in? Or was just the upper ball joint and tie rod disconnected?
@1stgenoffroad
@1stgenoffroad 6 жыл бұрын
On the drivers side I had the entire lower ball joint and tie rod off. But on the passenger side it was all connected. I did remove the upper control arm because I was changing it anyway. I’ve done it before where I left that in place too.

I did look through the comments, before asking; How long in hours, did it take to A. Do passenger side (hrs)? B. Do driver side (hrs) quicker? C. Time from start to finish (un-drivable) ? At $145/hr shop labour, I'm looking to do this myself also

What is a "Sway-bar"??? Honey Badger vaguely remembers something about that. She seems to recall it was something that restricted her movement and made cornering less fun. She likes to pretend she's a trophy truck whenever she can. :p
