Sajith is so damn humble! Can you even think that a person who created and revolutionised UPI peneteration by creating Gpay is saying he has always been lucky and people around him are much worthy then him.
@applepeel1662

I think that goes a long way. He's humble cause he knows such massive initiatives and successes are almost always a team effort. One person taking complete credit for the success of a company is quite a controversial statement. He seems to be a fantastic leader!

Completely agree but it is still commendable that he has that kind of clarity and grounded nature. Have seen team leaders in past who do understand that everything is a team effort but they show themselves at the front when credit is due. with regards to the Price of Talent/astronomical fees charged by certain actors i think Vijay digressed instead of taking on the elephant in the room. Simply put the question Nikhil was trying to understand was- how do we justify the 100/150 cr fees that we hear certain actors charge for films? How does one make sense of this/ how does it all add up. To this, i would like to add my 0.02$ as follows: 1. Demand-Supply gap for mass appeal movie stars: firstly, there are actually very few (just 6-8 actors) in the entire industry that actually command a fee which is say equal to or more than the film budget (The 100 cr fee club!!). These are just a handful of movie stars who have MASS APPEAL stardom. They popularity transcends geographies, cultures, socio-economic stratas.. they have a huge fan following ranging from the movie centres in the hinterland, to a tony multiplex in South Mumbai and even foreign shores. these 6/8 movie stars totally account for about 10-12 film releases in a year. This, is in an industry that releases 300 films a year. So as you can imagine, fundamentally there is a big DEMAND- SUPPLY mismatch for these movie stars and therefore it is safe to assume that they would always charge a significant premium. 2. Monestisation methods: With regards to justifying the actual amount- one has to look at monetisation of a movie. A large part of the monies accrue even before a film is released. For example sale of OTT rights/ satellite rights are sold on the strength of the star headlining the film- long before the film releases. The opening weekend collections of a film are again largerly on the star power of the actor, those bookings happen even before a review hits the street. for large productions with these mega stars, these collections combined account for close too 200/250 cr- and these dont accrue because of a postiive review or a great film- its purely the star power. So what these stars claim is a lions share of this revenue (50-60%) which is largely attributable to their popularity. The remainder that the producer gets, allows him/her to recover the cost of the film and the theatrical share is pure profit. 3. Opportunity cost: today the opportunity cost for one these mass movie stars is a minimum of 1.5/2 cr per day. If they arent doing a film, they have multiple avenues to monetise (advertising/ social media posts/ stage shows/ appearances/ tv shows)- each of which earns them a minimum of 1.5/2 cr for a days work. So, when a producers asks these movie stars for 60-70 days to shoot a film- their opp cost is 100 cr at the very least.

i think some actors charging high fees is acceptable since the 80% business falls on their soulders. but whatever he said about the musicians is very very real. i am a music producer myself and i have no intention to be jump into bollwood because i know how dirty it is and how much of money these labels/studio makes and how much the artist gets from it. and these called agencies are also part of it because whatever little amount artist gets from that too agency takes its share. so its fucked up biz for artist. atleast i am independent and happy earning good enough royalties knowing i have all the rights to my music and i will be recieving the royalties from all the songs that has released for atleast 100 years to come! because eveyrthing is automatically split and streamlined effortlessely that it justs credits to my bank everymonth with detailed report from where each penny came from.

@ravibohra
@ravibohra Жыл бұрын
@@adityarajadhyaksha3635 cost of actors is small part of the issue - their entourage is the main issue - they come with a lot of ppl, half of them who do now work(eg why is the agent coming on an overseas shoot on best business class/staying in 5 stars on producers cost? etc etc) and producer spends more than he does on the writers and technicians on them! ! otherwise the star will leave their movie
@arkay5004
@arkay5004 11 ай бұрын
Not sure if you even understood the argument. Notwithstanding, if one were to truly compare the sizes of movies without VFX and IMAX costs, I'm sure that star fees would be the highest portion of a movie's cost across the globe. Ofc with stars being worshipped in India the proportion is higher, but again, it's a fair and free market.

In general when a group of people are having a conversation on something they know about, everyone is jumping on each other to give their opinion, but here they listen more. One flaw in Vijay's argument is what does a creator loose if content doesn't work?? Nothing tangible. Artist getting chance to showcase the talent, tell the story, express the ideology on back of the financier and if doesn't work he walks away to next project without life altering consequences. But if a production fails producers can't walk away without consequences to the next one.

It's interest how such semi-technical-casual conversations that usually happen behind the scenes are gaining traction. Roughly 400K views is the testament that some of us want highly technical talks regarding business, operations and economics of various sectors. I wish the conversations had round 2, 3...and so on. But kudos to Nikhil for providing such high quality content accessible freely. Immense Gratitude 🙏🏽

The content industry is one of the cut-throat industries, the artists are the most egoist people to work with as they live in their own world. No matter what production line we discuss, the one who is a blend of writer-director-player-producer would make the best of the Money. An example, is Rakshit, Rishab Shetty. If you listen to Charlie's interview with Rakshit, he addresses that movie is targeting dog lovers in the north, so, some thought went into making money, it is not just fights, flesh, romance etc - it is the connection that brings in..

As an aspiring scriptwriter for the past 6 years, I must say this is the first time ever that ever so spoken words "Content is the king" got the right time width. I have seen producers, actors and studio heads shouting we must empower writers but the reality in the 'word to action' ratio is 1:1000 and it's disheartening because it always felt like a PR game to speak those words. Just speak and nothing else. Let's see what this does...

The contrast between Vijay and Ajay+Sajith‘s answers is so palpable - wish Vijay’s answers were more to the point which could have contributed to this topic. Such confusing analogies, left me longing for more from this podcast.

the question towards the end at 2.00 hrs - one of the biggest challenges for any platform consumer is the constant decision-making exercise that they are put to. I see a new behavior emerging where people logging out coz they do not want to constantly get into the decision-making process especially while watching content. Prompt engineering in AI can play a role in tackling this roadblock.

these ppl can come together, every year they can have a writers' competition where people can submit scripts, and they can pick up a few scripts and contract them. Additionally everything they didn't pick up, they can just connect producers and writers together, and viola, your incentive, also winners get some money, and all writers who go through this competition, whoever wins and whosoever writing gets picked up, can have the promise of fair practices, through this program. Doesn't cost much also to have a digital event like this, can be the first steps of bridging this gap

Happy Independence day to this lovely team 🙏 glad to learn about Ajay & Sujit sir..yet another down to earth yet genuine personas with gr8 wisdom. What I learnt from these 8 epic episodes is how to recognise🏅 someone genuinely without faking n make them feel valued ( ofcourse for that you need to know the ' actual ' person n learn about their work) + how to make the folks feel ' comfortable ' so that you can get the best out of them. Thanks again🙏

Nothing wrong! They were middle class of those years in decades of 80s to 90s as they talk of thier childhood/teenage years. As there was no split like upper, middle and lower middle class within the middle class those days, so they said what was told to them being like. At present, the same life style would be certainly upper middle class but far from rich/upper class.

Loved all the episodes.. On this one, with regards to the Price of Talent/astronomical fees charged by certain actors i think Vijay digressed instead of taking on the elephant in the room. I think the 3 points above should hopefully put into perspective how and why such amounts are charged and recovered.
