Holy "mackerel".... Beautiful scenery. you don't know me personally, but every week you invite me (virtually) to share in your adventures, thank you. You have certainly had more than your fair share of issues with the boat; refrigerator / freezers, the rats (electronics), just to name a few. I am inspired by your positive attitude. I especially enjoy the data part of the sailing; wind speed, boat speed, sail configuration. Additionally, if you try different approach to optimize performance. 4 knots of boat speed with 8 knots of wind, sounds pretty effective. I like your mention of dropping the Stern anchor to mitigate roll. (have you tried 2 Stern anchors before?) Do you have any plans to travel further west (Hawaii) or to sail the boat to the Atlantic and Carribean areas? Do you see a visit in your future to European and Mediterranean areas?

Thank you for watching and for your thoughtful comment! We do have three anchors - the main, an 88 lb Lewmar Delta, a 75 lb CQR also on the bow, and a 65 lb CQR in the lazaret. We used the 65 lb CQR as the stern anchor in the vid you saw and it was all we could do to retrieve it! So no, we’ve not tried a pair of stern anchors and don’t imagine a pair of stern anchors would give us any advantage. WRT cruising west, say to Hawaii, or eastward through the Panama Canal, so far we are very content cruising the Sea of Cortez and south to the Mexican Pacific. We’ve been as far South as Puerto Vallarta and are currently contemplating a trip down to Zihuatenejo which we understand is another fabulous Mexican destination. There’s just so much diversity and beauty in this area that we really haven’t had any desire to venture much further. We’ve not even nearly seen it all! I’m pleased to know you’re interested in the technical aspect of sailing the Pearl. As you may know, she is 79,500 lbs dry and with full tanks and fully provisioned she is somewhere in the neighborhood of 90,000 lbs. Her most efficient point of sail is a beam reach, or maybe a bit forward of beam, and we need something like six knots of wind to move her. We’ve seen 10.5 knots of speed which is slightly in excess of theoretical hull speed (1.34 x sq root of waterline length = 1.34(55^.5)= 9.94 knots.). She doesn’t point very close to the wind but if we have wind at 50 or 60 degrees off the bow, then she moves along pretty well. We have no down-wind sail so we need to jibe down wind to keep the canvas full. At any rate, we love her, she is super comfortable, and the two of us have put nearly 4000 miles under her keel so far. Thanks for watching!🥰
