I'm not a winder, but Lindy is really making me appreciate the workmanship, thought and experience that goes into a pickup, and what it can mean to a guitar. Too often we think of a pickup and the sound, not the story that is behind it. Good interview, glad he did it.

I have had my Unbucker pickups for almost 20 years now. I custom ordered the Unbucker to my specs. Added the Jimmy Page wiring. The split coil is awesome with no volume drop thru the hot wind. My guitar sounds so good. I told my friend I would put my guitar up against any guitar. He said go grab that Gibson off the wall and try that for sound. It turns out the Gibson off the wall was a famous 59 burst. I guess I was wrong. However, the 59 burst is the only guitar the beat out those Unbuckers to date.

Love his stuff! They are all very fairly priced, high quality and sound awesome. I have them installed in a few of my guitars. Highly recommended. I have one guitar with his hum-cancelling P90s and they are AMAZING - with zero noise. They are his own unique design, and I love their tone. Try 'em...

When I moved to Richmond in 1995 I learned about Lindy. Since then I’ve bought maybe a dozen sets of pickups from him, each time visiting his shop where he is available and as willing to talk as he is in this great interview. For someone who is world famous among guitar players, you’ll never meet a humbler guy. I love his Blues Specials on Teles and Strats but on his recommendation will go with Split Rails next time.

Well this is awesome! I bought a Friedman BE-100 and my first of many set's of Fralin's this year! I just got the Fralin Classic Tele set installed over the weekend and I wanted to cry. This is the sound I've been searching for all my life. I can't believe it was so obtainable. This partscaster is magical now. It has so many tones. I actually use my volume and tone knobs now. Rather than everything at 10. And the Friedman? What can I say. It has just about every tone you could want. It even dips into vox and fender areas at times. But I have those also if I really need those tones.

Thanks Marc, Dave, and Lindy! Back in ‘86, I finally saved up enough cash to buy my first guitar. The day I went to buy the Squire Strat I was eyeing, it was sold...I ended up with an Yamaha SG200. I’d lament over it, but I’m sure it, like the SG, would’ve been traded for something else 😂 Have a good weekend :)

I kept trying different pickups in the neck position of my PRS Artist, humbucker format. I wasn't happy with any pickup there. Eventually I tried the Twangmaster and was amazed at how big, open, and clear the tone was, it was the perfect pairing with the PRS. This is the final pickup in the neck position of this PRS!

He suggested that we have Lindy custom wind the pickups with mixed magnets. We went back and forth over the phone and even sent back one of the prototypes. I could not have been a bigger ass. I agree fully with Dave Friedman about TCElectronic Hall Of Fame 2 reverb. I bought it just to compare it against the similarly priced EHX Oceans 11 and... Hall Of Fame 2 sounds dull. There's no life in those sounds. You can get it work by tweaking it HARD with toneprint editor but straight out of the box EHX O11 sweeps the floor with HOF2. I'm actually selling my HOF2 and replacing it with Free The Tone Ambi-Space reverb OR Chase Bliss Audio Dark World. If you seek for cheap reverb for your guitar rig / pedalboard... get the EHX Oceans 11. It sounds so much better. Especially if you do NOT need HOF's stereo in/out jacks. And especially if you don't want to spend countless nights tweaking your toneprints to get a "fairly OK" spring reverb. You can get that straight out of the box with Oceans 11. Get the EHX instead. Play more, tweak and fiddle with knobs less.

Lindy, there exists an instrument which you where on your head and you can think the notes, and it will record them in real time. When I studied at Berklee, one I'd my professors had one in the edm department. It's a midi style instrument. But it def exists.

You suggest anything for a les Paul for a nice hot rodded sound? And also can you make a pickup with a quick connect adapter for the 2019 gibsons? No one makes these not even Gibson seems to anymore i know you can wire up to an adapter but it would be nice if someone offered em ready to go.
@AuntAlnico43 жыл бұрын
Well quick connect is junk just cut em off an solder hard wire style, and if you have PCB board wiring harness cut that out and replace with Frailin wiring harness or whatever but if your Les Paul has humbckers from Gibson it should be good, l like 57's from Gibson but also like 490 set too but if you must spend money on pickups go for Frailin vintage style PAF humbckers or throwbak PAF humbckers will get you that vibrant sounds !
