Met Billy a few times, such a classy dude. Everyone loves the 80s Cult as they should, but don't sleep on Choice of Weapon and Hidden City, both are epic.

The Cult's "Love" album was a HUGE influence for me. Such a unique sound and production. Recently spent a stupid sum on an original, sealed vinyl pressing from 1985. The I cracked it open, and played it. So good. Thanks Dave, Marc, and Mr. Duffy for the great discussion.

I saw the Cult open for Idol’s Whiplash Smile tour.. went to show to see Steve Stevens.. went bonkers and bought scalpers tickets and was second row floor…. All I knew of the Cult was She Sells Sanctuary.. thought it would be interesting but didn’t really care. Lights go out. And BOOM… the sound was unbelievable. It was like getting hit by a truck but in a good way. My buddy and I looked at each other and then proceeded to head bang and foot stomp for the entire set. It was a different band. We both actually came away from the show as huge Cult fans. One of the best opening bands I had ever seen. Thanks Billy!

...Friedman Amps, & Billy Duffy! A great combination isn't it. Billy's tone definitely lends itself to the favor of the Gritty Hard Rocking growl of Dave's Friedman Amps! Great interview, I love hearing from Billy as he did write, & record one of my top favorite albums of ALL TIME! "Electric" was a mainstay on my turntable from the time I started High School till several years after & I had dropper out of collage.the Albums seriously full of some true Bangers!" That albums amazing, start to finish!

Great interview with Billy Duffy. Great to hear him go into detail on a lot of the Cult's recordings, his guitars and sounds. I agree with him on Boss pedals -- ubiquitous, dependable, working-class sound and tone machines. It's difficult to not be able to get a decent tone using a Boss pedal, although some have a bit more width than others.

Till this day The Cult was the best concert i have ever seen. They were playing a stadium in Lisbon (maybe with Metallica and Suicidal tendencies I believe), and the night before or after, they played a small club (Gartejo). It was such a crazy concert!!! I remember Billy broke his head coming from backstage to do the encore!!!! A small club in warm Lisbon, everyone jumping....sound just in your face rock n roll!!! Fu****g Amazing!!!! I played the previous day on that club!! Great times!! Love Billy....and you can see he is a great guy!!! Good job Marc and Dave!!

I realised a little while ago that I listened to The Cult waaaay more than I listened to G'n'R back in the day. Not knocking Appetite in any way (dearly love it and aw 'em on their first UK tour) but I spun Sonic Temple and Electric more often, and nowadays it's no different. What a great band and Billy is a great guy. Check out The Pursuit of Tone that Ernie Ball made a while back for an hour of pure Duffyness.

LOL - I've NOT seen Bill play live four times. First time, I had tickets for the Cult in '85, didn't fancy it, gave the tickets away. Second and third time, a mate's band was touring the UK at the end of '99, Bill was playing in the support band... I was late for the gigs, missed the support band (though, on the second night I was stood at the back of the hall watching, him and Mike Peters came in and Bill asked me for a light). Fourth time was a Dead Men Walking gig in '03, he didn't play for some reason (think he was ill) and a mate of mine stood in for him. Met him backstage on the mate's tour. Nice bloke. Seems we used to go in all the same guitar shops way back (in Manchester).

A huge influence on me. Both in gear and style, a textured riffing monster. To this day, I blend single-ended Class A amps (Matchless, Vox) with roaring Marshalls and a Les Paul, with a few effects. BD, Dean Deleo and Jerry Cantrell - all guys who play for the SONG.

Slayer's Reign in Blood and The Cult's Electric have that in common (I believe) that Rick Rubin squeezed the essence out of the band and made of every track a ball of pure rock'n'roll energy. Those are 2 of my fav albums EVER. The holy trinity of pure energy in r'n'r for me would be those 2 and Deep Purple In Rock. Cheers!
