I just discovered your channel and found it really interesting so you got a new subscriber that'll follow you closely ! ;) You had the courage I didn't have to do videos about these old laptops. I've collected a lot of them too (& mobos, graphics cards, sound cards etc. a bit of a hoarder if I'm honest😋 ) and did a lot of research through the years to get the "ultimate" one for DOS and/or for Win9X. Personally I don't really care about the game/midi port & wavetable, it's not that important if you have already a gound sound card IMHO. I care more about the durability and/or ease to maintain/disassemble & find parts (if possible, it's increasingly difficult nowadays)... These machines are more than 20y old after all 😋 I'm currently sticking with a Compaq Armada 7792DMT as my favourite DOS laptop cause I found it cheap with a working battery and it has a good display/graphics card/sound card/cpu combo, versatile enough :) I found fascinating trying to seek the better models for that use as there's always some trade-offs. It's more challenging and rewarding in a way than building a desktop retro computer where you can mix & match components as you like

Your feedback is invaluable in enhancing my reviews and addressing aspects that will benefit the community. Who's not a hoarder if you are watching these videos till the end : ). In fact, I started this channel because I had to get rid of so much hardware before moving to a smaller apartment. I somewhat regret not exploring laptops sooner. Prices have steadily risen; a few years ago, we could find them abundantly at recycling centers. Nevertheless, I make an effort to choose laptop models for my reviews that are still reasonably accessible at affordable prices, ensuring the community has a chance to acquire them. Excellente vidéo! What are you using to capture DOS footage? I'm getting disatisfied with my cheap VGA to HDMI (with optional audio piggy back) from Amazon. It gives me slow rolling waves of interference.

Hello, I know exactly what you mean by the interference. I am using the following two devices: VGA to HDMI VGA Adapter, Gold... www.amazon.com/dp/B0BBRCGHJM?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share and Video Capture Card, Hdmi Capture... www.amazon.com/dp/B09JNNFRGQ?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share Here are the two things I did to mitigate the problem: Use a high quality short vga cable (1.5foot), and secondly: power the VGAtoHDMI from a discreet USB charger that is plugged on a separate outlet/circuit to avoid the ground loop.

It’s a very annoying problem, it took me a while to get to an acceptable solution. That’s the challenge when dealing with analogue signals. The interference is not due to the capture dongle, it’s from the vga to hdmi. The next issue you may encounter is ground loop audio hum. What is the CPU FSB? Is it possible to upgrade CPU to 400MHz or even 500Mhz? Will it run with K6-3 CPU? What is the mainboard chip on this unit?

Greetings, I appreciate your time spent watching my video. I tried with a K6-2 433MHz, and a K6 2+ 550. Regrettably, the BIOS of my unit is locked to 333MHz. I couldn't get it to boot at all with either of the CPUs.

I tend to agree with you regarding sound. I found some P2 compaqs and a gateway with ISA sound + hardware wavetable. I’ll test them soon. Stay tuned for my next review, the libretto 70. Cheers !

If it’s a clean, complete, tested, working unit, I personally find ~50$ reasonable. With windows 98 sticker/license, battery that still holds charge, non-yellowed strong screen backlight, and minimal scratches, I would consider $75-$100 as ok value. I’m evaluating from the perspective of a desktop alternative (I.e. cpu unit, mouse, kb, monitor, audician sound card, S3 card).

For IDE PATA, I do not quite understand the need to still promote Compact Flash from all these retro channels. I have never used ANY in my retro PCs, ZERO, NADA, since the beginning of time. You have so many better options than Compact Flash; Compact Flash or SD card adapters are way too slow. Better use a silent 7200rpm PATA DE HDD, any SATA-TO-IDE PATA adapter with an included mini SATA SSD, or any mini industrial PATA IDE SSD (4GB up to 16GB).
