Every morning is a new beginning. Fresh start. I like that. How do you decide where to draw the line in spending on kids? The gadgets and toys now cost a lot more than 25 years ago. Even mobile phones, now even kids have that which during our time wasnt the case. Also they are aware of new models. Every family has a different budget and different affordability so that too is a consideration. Bukan semua orang yang mampu membeli barang yang sama. This is something kids should understand. Too much materialism in our society.

Great that you like the practice of counting your blessings every morning. It is an amazing way to start the day. We are not against buying gifts for kids. But the approach of buying something for them as a guilt redeeming act for not spending time with them is what we are trying to avoid. If you buy a phone, for example, it is a one time purchase which last for a while. But, when every outing turns into a shopping spree for them, then it starts to get unhealthy. Some may say, they have the affordability to but it is not a case of being able to afford or otherwise. It is the intention of the parents and the attachment created which we worry about.

I get where you are coming from. I feel quality time is important too. Some parents are physically present but don't spend quality time.
