Finally found a podcast that celebrates not only Holmes but the wonderful actor that played him. Subbed and cant wait to get stuck in. Very well done way to tell the story.

Its that time of the year again for another watch of The Blue Carbuncle. Might pop down to the Alpha for a swift half as well

I love the Breckinridge scene perhaps the best. It’s delightful to watch Holmes’ self awareness: he knows he can come across as imperious and unlikable, and he uses this to make sure Breckinridge wants to beat him, not just to win the money but to take him down a peg or two. It’s brilliant.

One small thing: The actor who loses the goose in the Jeremy Brett carbongle episode, is the same one who finds it, more then ten years earlier in the Sherlock Holmes serie with Peter Cushing.

We often watch this classic episode at Christmas time in place of A Christmas Carol. There is magic woven through this episode and the perfectly cast ensemble has to be a large part of the reason. Ken Campbell is very good and Frank Middlemass pulls perfectly on the heartstrings with his books and sad tale.

This is amazing. I have loved Jeremy Brett and this version of Sherlock Holmes since I was a child. Being from Denmark my parents had to read the subtitles for me. Being a child I saw Sherlock Holmes as a superhero. Being a fan ever since. As a teenager I recordet as many episodes I could on VHS. As an adult I found it all on DVD. Now I watch it online. And in my world it’s not Christmas if I don’t sit down and watch this episode (and Muppets Christmas Carol)

I just rewatched this episode because of the Christmas season and it got me excited to watch the whole series again. I KZbin search brought me to this podcast and I couldn’t be more thrilled. The Game is afoot, I’ve got a lot of catching up to do.

This is one of the first of our holiday movie traditions. Even before the, "which is the best version of A Christmas Carol" debate. I remember watching this with my Dad as a kid, best Holmes ever!

One of my favorite differences between the Grenada series version of this story and Conan Doyle's original is when they rush out to check on the goose club. Conan Doyle has Holmes telling Watson they have no time for dinner, and that they "must turn our dinner into supper, and follow up on this clue while it is still hot." In the Grenada version, Mrs. Hudson responds, "Which is more than the supper will be." A brilliant addition that gives us a glimpse of the spirit of Mrs. Hudson and her long-suffering role catering to her tenants.

There are at least 4 famous English actors as extras in this episode who give (to my mind) excellent performances!

I just noticed, that the main staircase of the hotel Cosmopolitan was filmed in the same place than the staircase-scenes in the film The Good Soldier starring Jeremy Brett. The more I watch these episodes, the more I notice things. It surely gives extra bonus while enjoyng these stories. P. S. This episode is one of the stories I watch every Christmas, together with It's a Wonderful Life and Christmas Carol. It's a tradition😊 Merry Christmas!
