One of my favorite things about Joss Ackland’s performance is how much it reminds me of Sydney Greenstreet, which makes this episode pair especially well with the next episode’s Peter Lorre homage. Also I wish you had talked more about Sherlock’s interactions with Violet: he touches her hair several times and her shoulder at least once. Does he just have a thing for women named Violet? (You did mention his interest in Violet Smith in that episode’s podcast.) I would love to know your thoughts! And thanks again for doing this marvelous thing.

Its not a "thing", He is trying to comfort her in his own awkward way, as well as studying her, Holmes isn't really interested in that sort of thing he is pretty much asexual he certainly admires certain traits in people like Irene Adler for example but was purposefully written by Arthur Conan Doyle as not interested in romantic relationships. Watson actually says "such feelings are beneath him"

I think of the laughing man in the Greek Intrepreter to be closer to a Peter Lorre homage. (I'm not saying you are wrong-I am just saying what my thoughts were)

Bill Craig penned many episodes of the absolutely unparalleled t.v. series Callan. One of the few t.v. series that I can't decide if I like more than S.H.! Honestly, I highly recommend anyone who likes good British drama to check it out.

Jeremy Brett is my favourite Holmes, so I'm glad that I discovered your channel. Thank you so much for your dedication and all the research that are necessary for making these excellent episodes. Keep up the great work! You mention that Joss Ackland regretted to appear in the music video Always On My Mind by the Pet Shop Boys. That particular video is edited from the 1988 feature film It Couldn't Happen Here, directed by Jack Bond, which has a strange story based upon PSB songs. Barbara Windsor, Gareth Hunt and Neil Dickson also starred in it. Some say it is weird, but I love PSB and like it very much.

I came across this today, where Joss Ackland reads a letter he wrote to his wife. So incredibly moving and such a talent - kzbin.info/www/bejne/jH6uqJ6jgrh5racfeature=shared

Mrs. Rucastle reminds me of Gary Oldman in his white wig for Dracula. Maybe that is why she is so disturbing.😂

This is the only episode that makes absolutely no sense to me. If, according to Mrs Toller, the bearded man stood by his woman, why does she scream when he uses his small axe to gain access to her? To me, Joss Ackland's role was really scary and I found it a bit overbearing. (May God rest his soul.) Holmes in his opening arguments is way too heated - the energy is over the top for a disputation on Watson' writing style. What of those precocious children? They seem too wicked and evil. I find the bearded man seems singularly unattractive so I couldn't understand the chemistry between him and his supposed suitor whom we take a while to see. A big 'F' for me. Sorry, hate to be uncharitable.
