Great video lads, we’re you using bait straight on the hook or we’re hair rigs used at all and Steve and do know how much approximately per nite for the b&b , what hook bait should I bring any boiles or wafers aloud, I think I’ll plan my own trip soon
@FishingwithSteveIreland Жыл бұрын
Thanks Colin, you’ll need to contact the fishery about the b&b price as prices maybe different for different times of the year with busy periods etc.. we were still kind of in the off season. Bait was straight onto the hook without a hair rig. I had 8lb mono straight through to the size 12 hook. Harry used pre tied hook lengths bought at the fishery. Size 12 on 7.9lb mono. Most bites for me came on Luncheon meat and later in the evening worm in the margins was working best for both of us. There are no boilies and waffters allowed. You’ll also get bites on sweetcorn as well, on this trip they weren’t as frequent. We just found that meat and worm worked best during our trip. The fishery sell bags of their pellet. Tony feeds the carp in that lake with a 25kg bag a week. So they don’t shy away from large beds of it. We used a small amount of groundbait to draw in the fish then topped up constantly with the pellet. If you give the fishery a call he can email you the rules, there are a few but they are not unreasonable and are the reason the fishing is so good on the fishery. Hope you have a good trip and if you need any info closer to the date, drop me an email on fishingwithsteve1@gmail.com and I can try help out as best I can. Tightlines

Lovely fishery, I've never really spent much time on the specimen lake. I've had some lovely carp from the main match lake.

Yeah Frank, Its a super spot. We started on the match lake alright and had a few of its double figure residents. Not as many bits on the specimen but the stamp of fish on average makes it worth it.

Hey Steve,another great video.Maybe a stupid question here but what’s the difference between the match lake and specimen lake down in Toomeys.I fish Loch Mahon a fair bit and I know there’s limited pegs in the specimen lake ..Do you have to book ahead in Toomans for the specimen and match lake.
@FishingwithSteveIreland Жыл бұрын
Hi Gar, thanks for the comment. The main difference is average size of fish and stock levels. The match lake average size 2/3lb but you can hit upper doubles in there the odd time. The match lake has a high stock of fish and it’s not unusual to bag 300/400lb of fish in a full day session. The specimen lake average 6/7lb with a good number of doubles. Is a much smaller lake at around 1.5 acres in size. Stock levels are good but the fish are a lot wiser on the specimen lake. As far as I know he only lets 4 fish the specimen lake at any one time. Your best dropping a message to their Facebook page or giving a call to book on. He’ll also go through the rules with you. It’s float fishing only on all lakes as well. It’s a very well run fishery with great facilities. Let me know how you get on if you decide to give it a go.

Loving the vids. I dont live too far away from Toomans so must try it. Are you fishing on the bottom or nearer the surface?

Cheers Shane, give it a go it’s a great venue. I was fishing on the bottom about 4 -6 inches over depth.

No problem at all. We can sort something out. I probably won't be back there for a while myself as I want to try out some different waters. I might be leaving it for an autumn or early winter session.

Sorry forgot to ask do they have Tench
@FishingwithSteveIreland Жыл бұрын
Hi Stevey thanks for the comment. I actually bought that rod off Tony in the fishery. He has a full tackle shop up there and his prices are spot on. The baitboat and deeper definitely help carping, when fishing a new lake you can survey the area quicker with less disruption. I’d normally mark my spots on the deeper then have a quick lead about to pinpoint the spots. Saying that they definitely helped put fish on the bank for me in those last couple of pike sessions. I was able to drop the baits into areas that were well beyond casting range and know each time I was on that drop off or edge of the weed bed. So for piking on lakes I wouldn’t be without them now. There are only a handful of tench in the specimen lake a few more in the match lake. Biggest tench I’ve had was about 3lb (from the match lake) apparently at one time there was bigger but there is that many small carp to 3lb in the match lake I’d say they got crowded out.

@Fishing With Steve think will get Rod from his shop then cause u know be good Rod.. I have 6lb line on my float Rod Atm might need get 8lb for the lake. I have a deeper but going get a boat for the pike fishing in the winter the drop offs are the key:) get them big girls

@@STEV138 I got my boat from anglers world. That actor mk4 with and extra 10mAH battery and a bag was only €300. You’d probably get away with one battery if you’re only doing day sessions and not weekends.
