I get exactly what your saying, yruhatin100, Red tool house and loads of other homesteading channels have given me the confidence to make the move, without the access to their knowledge and experience I'm not sure the future would be the same. I am just about to start my channel so others can follow me moving from a city in UK to an off grid log house in the forest in Lithuania. It's been a year since your comment I hope all went well for you GOOD LUCK and big thanks to Red tool house

The info you put on this channel is priceless.I wish you the best of health and a long happy life so that you may keep sharing the good and bad of homesteading with us. In 2 years i will be 30 years old and finally (retiring) getting off the crazy train of corporate work-style and will be moving on a forest homestead with my lovely wife. I want you to know that part of the decision is because of you and i am grateful for that. Keep it up Sir and all the best.

We've been working hard over the past 5 years to save a lot of money and invest in safe ways so that we are debt free by the end of it all.The plan was to retire early so that we may enjoy the life we want and you must know how many compromises you have to do to get anywhere close to that. Anyway, ramble done :) but i'm looking forward to the possibilities of self sufficiency and a peaceful family life where we can take care of each other and still make a in come whiteout having to push through 70 hour weeks anymore. 2 more years!!! thanks again for the i'm put you have in so many peoples lives.

Good solid points. I am coming up on a year for my You tube channel. It sure does take a lot more time to make a video than viewers realize. If I am going to film a project, it will take me twice as long compared to me just doing it off camera. Constantly having to stop and explain what is going on, moving the camera and lighting for the best shots.
@RedToolHouse6 жыл бұрын
No doubt! Definitely slows down a project. My kids roll their eyes when I drag out the camera when we are trying to do something.

The double amount of time needed to complete an activity is one of the main reasons I have not shot more videos for our channel. I’m not sure I will ever have the patience to do what Troy and many others do in producing KZbin content. Tim

Another great video Troy. I do not make videos nor will I in the future. I do not have the time. I barely have time to watch the ones I do watch. Perhaps 12 or so. Of perhaps 25 channels that I have previewed I may choose 1 channel to watch. First of all they must be a homestead/farm channel or a channel where folk are preserving/cooking what they grow. The main reason I stop watching a channel is that they have no idea of what they re talking about or why. Like the one gardening channel where the fellow would state that this is the only way to garden but then a year later would not change his mind and make a video stating why he changed his mind but would just make a video stating that some other way was the best. Then there are the channels that make videos just for the sake of making them. A homesteader prepper channel that the fellow made a video at least once a day but would have videos on how to change a tire on your car or the workings of a paperclip. These I eliminate immediately. Why do I watch your channel (I have watched every episode from day one) is probably you do a massive amount of research and present it not as you are the one and only know it all. You present multi sides of the point and let the watcher make his or her own decision. Keep up the great work. God Bless Joe

I am still using a phone for my baby YT channel, and will invest in a camera when I can (starting with a GoPro for ultimate durability!). And good point about the audio, especially if you're relying on a phone's built in mic. (My breath sounds remind me of Darth Vader on my own stuff...Or maybe the Marlboro Man on his death bed) And another (!) good point about the video file sizes... a 10 minute video might start with 45 minutes of footage. And that's a LOT of data. I also have a 2TB server to store it all. And editing takes time. Especially at first as you're learning how your software works. But everyone, please try! There's a million ideas out there.....Share them
@RedToolHouse6 жыл бұрын
Good luck! There a hundreds of camera options but the GoPro is a good one. Hard drive space is definitely a most!

I have a (now older) GoPro Hero Session and really like using it. The cost was fairly affordable at somewhere around $200 at the time. My main complaint is the audio quality of the GoPro--it's terrible! I'm also on a baby YT channel ;) and use my phone(s) for video. Both are iPhones, one being an older iPhone 6 and the other is an iPhone 8 Plus. As of right now, I do all my editing and post production on the iPhone 8 using iMovie, too. While not being affordable if you look at smartphone costs vs. camera costs, the fact that my phone is a multi-edge sword on the homestead makes it feel like a better and easier pill to swallow. :)

@@sam-and-angela thanks for the input! Sounds like an external mic would be important
@sam-and-angela6 жыл бұрын
Yes! I have a Rode VideoMicMe that I connect to my phone as much as I can remember to. :) It helps a lot with audio. In the past, I'd also made a DIY Lavalier mic from an old set of headphones. But that was back before Apple took away the audio jack on the phones. :(

Can you please have a video on how to make a KZbin video just using pictures/photos and then overlaying a voiceover? I am terribly photo-shy and even when the camera is not on me, I start stuttering and can't even THINK! But I can take photos, and work (edit 50 times if I have to) a voiceover for it. Am trying to make a little video to show my kids and grandkids 3000 miles away (who refuse to visit me) what it is that I do, and maybe leave copies of it for them in my Will.
