It was taek ever since it was said that he couldn't speak informally with noeul for 10 years. Also, does anyone realize that it's only when Taek was in his room that she knocked and only taek and deok sun corresponded over the phone? She randomly brought those fish pastries for Taek out of nowhere. Why not JH if he lives right upstairs? And even when they are adults, all of JH's tapes are of that singer (that he and Deoksun went to concert with) Deok sun is just amazed that he still listens to them and can't even remember which songs are in which album. It indicates how much JH lives in the past and is stuck in the past, while Deok sun had moved on. If you look at the overall course of the drama, the drama was focused on family, as well as the development of Taek as a character. I'm pretty firm in my belief that Taek was the main character to begin with. They linked him with every member of Deok Sun's family - and like 94 and 97, that's an important component. Also, in 94,97, when the main character narrates about one of the boys in the very beginning (ie 94, was "it was my dream to marry oppa when I was young") that's usually the boy that they end up with (in 98, episode 2, deok sun talks about a boy that moved into their neighborhoor) Otherwise, why is meeting with taek for the first time of such importance? I think though many people were hung over with JH because his acting chops were top-notch. But if you just look at their interactions, Deok sun never really responded back to his affections or pretty much was confused because she thought he liked him, and then he acted completely indifferent and then he lost her. And most of the time, when something that makes JH fans go crazy happens, Deok sun is asleep. (again she doesn't notice) Furthermore, when Deok sun asks Dong Ryong what it means to like someone, Dong Ryong said to stop liking people because other people tell you think that this guy is interested in you, but to go for who you like. It was then that Deok Sun and Taek's love line really started to emerge. I think Deok Sun didn't know of course what was happening, but I think she was drawn towards Taek because he EXPRESSED that he cared about her. No one told her outright (until ep 19) that Taek had feelings for her, but she developed them all on her own. And if you were the girl, would you really go for the guy who seems cold and indifferent to you and when you think he might be interested, he gives the present you gave to his older brother to wear? Or would you go for the guy who gave up his international match, gave you his trophy, (which basically is his entire life) was there for you every time you cried (including the time with that pervert) and gave you medicine when you were not feeling well? This is a no brainer. some people might think Taek is mean for snatching away a girl his friend liked. But I think when you really like someone, when she is in trouble, helping her is all you can think about. And in all fairness, he did hesitate and even asked JH because of it. At JH lost the girl because like he said in ep 18, he didn't have the same type of desperation (and courage) as Taek did. And let's face it, Taek & Deok Sun are adorable.

I believe that the show wanted to teach us a lesson about love. That love is timing, and that timing is a series of choices that we make with that other person in mind. Yes, it would have been romantic and beautiful to have Jung Hwan get the girl, but what lesson will that have taught us? That you can be hesitant and not have to fight for the love of your life because it will be given to you simply because you love her? Then that would have made this show unrealistic. The choice of Taek as the husband was apt in my opinion simply for pushing the last bit of realness that love is not a fairytale with guaranteed happy ending. If you really want that happy ending, you got to work for it. Taek worked for it, but Jung Hwan didn't. And that's why he can't be the one.

I'm not sure if this is intentional or not but Taek kind of fulfilled a lot of DS's fantasies. The way he wrapped her with jacket was like her fantasy in earlier episode imitating the chocolate commercial. He offered her his jacket at concert, just like she has once asked JH to. He grinned hard watching DS binge eat beef at the beach, while JH was being real and practical and told her not to order too much food. Yeah choosing Taek is a no-brainer considering how her needs were usually ignored.

From what I've been reading, I thought JH would be the husband but was totally shocked to know it was actually Taek so I decided to watch the drama. And I'm happy with the ending. It wasn't your typical drama where its just so predictable. OMG but with all the theories you I'm reading, I feel like I should watch it again and be more observant hahaha one thing I'm happy about is that Deoksun chose Taek without anyone telling her to and thinking he likes her. Thats not the case with SW and JH. I was actually quite frustrated with JH half the time because he's been hesitating so much. I do believe it was Taek in the beginning all along. JH was just there to intrigue us. I can totally imagine JH with other girls in the future but Taek, only Deoksun can deal with him and is suited to be his wife.

Both guys were tested. To get the girl they had to give up what they treasured the most. For Taek that was Baduk. For Junghwan that was his friends. In the end, Junghwan couldn't sacrifice his friendship (with Dukseon and Taek) for Dukseon. So noble, but really sad. I'm glad the writers went that route though because it keeps Jung hwan as the same loyal and likeable character

For Junghwan, it is his ego that he treasured the most. He was ashamed to admit that Deok-Sun is beautiful and pretty. He was ashamed to admit that he likes Deok-Sun. So when he realized about that, when he was ready to give up his ego, he realized it was already too late. While I agree that both boys had been tested, both gave up for their friendship. Junghwan didn't confess and Taek cancelled his confession as well in the begining.

The reason y this hurts so much is because jung hwan's character was given so much importance in deok sun's love life. Even more than taek .. Like in ep 18 they showed flash back scenes where junghwan watched her secretly from the window and when he gave her the umbrella and came back flustered. Y show all that if ultimately it's taek.
