I just love, love ,love this drama. I can watch it again and again. The story and acting are superb and not just the main characters. This and The Sword and Brocaide are my favourites which I love revisiting 😊

At the Cliff: I’ve watched this series Numerous times. The Director’s and Script Writers’ attention to detail is impeccable, those details are an integral part in explaining the story, in this scene Huo Buyi tells Cheng Shaoshang, ever since their oath with bite marks he has treated her as his wife. The Black Guards giving the couple space by standing guard at attention with their backs turned signals to me they feel protective of the relationship of their General and his attachment to Cheng Shaoshang. I often see something I missed while watching. This time: the Black Guards are standing next to their horses with the backs to their Young Master and Cheng Shaoshang, just the same as they did during the couple’s engagement courtship.

I don't believe Yuan Shen really loved her. I believe he wanted to just conquer and possess her just because. He wouldn't know what to do with her and they would not be a good match. It's clear that Ling Buyi is her perfect match.

@@brendaturner8742 Not so much as conquer or possess, he thought because they both didn't get love from their family as children. He thought they were they same and didn't need a romantic love. He admired her but he admitted to he could never deeply love her. His feelings for her were the closest to true love that he had felt. He was just unable to love her deeply.

@@corondaglasper4236 I can agree, but want to add that I considered him obsessive and possessive because of his manipulations and tricks regarding her. He seemed to stalk her and kept waiting for an opportunity to catch her at her most vulnerable to strike. He kind of reminded me of those female mistresses and concubines that did whatever they could to have a person who doesn't want them and they know it. He stalked, spied and waited through two engagements-- even when she declared love for someone else he seemed to not be able to leave her alone and waited for his opportunity. I thought he would've been a better match for the poetry and writing cousin but he wanted to beat the other guys and show them that he could have her....until this scene.

​@@brendaturner8742To be fair, the fact that Shaoshang was different from all the other females is what drew her to all three of them. Her lack of formal education and etiquette and her being he unapologetic self drew them to her. For Zisheng it was originally the way she exposed her great uncle and her horrible aunt's business practices and then when he actually saw her well that just sealed the deal. For Yao, I think his first attraction was that she was not afraid to snap back at the overbearing fiancee of his and then when they experienced the tragedy deepened his admiration for ( because I don't think they were in love with each other just infatuation). For Yuan, I think it was first she could solve the riddles and then she didn't know who he was when she threw that ball back to him and she became a challenge because she didn't throw herself at him just the opposite she fought back and didn't want to hear his wordy conversation just get to the point and keep it simple. I think during her 5 year stay in the palace is when they finally became friends. In one way I felt sorry for Yuan because he was destined to repeat his parents' mistakes and marry someone he doesn't necessarily love.

He has no choice. He never even liked this woman but she killed her own husband thinking she'll be able to hook up with the General. When he recovered he returned to his army base with this obsessed woman following him and then falsely claiming to be his fiancé. He watched her kill her husband so if nothing else he can't accept that level of betrayal. He tried being nice but she keeps trying to force him. Short of killing her this is the best way.

Shaoshang has been forcing Ling to Chang for her but she continues to live the way she sees fit and holding a grudge against him for completing a task that has taken his whole life to complete. In the mean time giving up his life for what ever she wants of him. Her mother was right.

But in her defense she was only 15 when she met him, a tomboy and knew nothing about love or romantic relationships. We watched her constantly transform into a born General herself. She didn't know who or what she liked before but the General is 5 years older than her, more mature, and knew exactly who and what he wanted from first sight. He waited patiently until she literally grew up although when he was hurt and recovering those five years everyone thought he was dead, including her. It seems like she couldn't love anyone else either.

Yes, the shoe was first white then it was changed to orange. The orange one was taken on the scene where she was staying on Wan's residence. You could see on CSS face that she still has bruise on her eye and the dress is different. What I think, LBY & CSS were both thinking about that incident (de ja vu) when he tried to help her again. Just my theory.
