haha I thought you had used a piano hinge on the rudder for a second! then I realized it was duct tape!
@RexandKathie2 жыл бұрын
We much prefer duct tape to piano hinges, or at least during construction. thanks for watching.

Very useful video. Thanks. I'm refitting an old Tiki 21 and didn't know how to redo the rudder lashings. Due to rot I had to refurbish the lacing post. May I ask wich drill size did you use? Thanks in advance. I admire what you are doing!

Hello, First we drilled an oversize hole(at least twice line size) and filled with thickened epoxy. After the epoxy cured we drilled a hole slightly larger than the line size. We used 3mm dyneema line to lace with, the hole should be at least 4 mm to make lacing easier. Once laced we squirted a little epoxy into the holes to insure the line did not move, Paint would probably work as well. Appreciate you watching our video.

You folks do such beautiful work. I had never seen anyone do the lacing on the tillers before. everyone seems to want to show you how they attach the beams to the hulls. I sure enjoy watching you. thx for the video and all you do to bring it to us.

That’s a pretty cool and frugal way to do the rudder hinges.

Thanks, they work very well too.

one of my greatest loves is sailing and we've been separated for far too long . . . i can't wait to get cracking on my own, til then i can only thank you for the joy you bring me watching you two work the process. . . i't's not just the pleasure it is listen'n to Rex 'self moderate' but MrsKathie's wonderful demeanor and 'wifely mannerisms' i catch through the entirety of your videos, warms my heart, refreshes my soul, gives me hope that my marriage of 22 yrs now will grow into something so beautiful and precious, thank you both very much (even my wife perks up when she hears that opening)

Glad you are enjoying the videos, we do enjoy making them except when the computer eats a video like this one twice as we were editing it. Came out in the end, thanks for watching.

Nice job! Once you kinda develop a method those rope hinges can be churned out relatively quickly. We have used them in most of our pod lockers. You must be seeing a blessed event on the horizon these days...
@RexandKathie2 жыл бұрын
Thanks, yeah I was surprised how quickly we can do them. The day is getting closer and closer, looking like it will be in the next few months. Thanks Grant.

What type of string/ cord is that that you're using? Nice work.
@RexandKathie2 жыл бұрын
it is 1/8th inch braided New England Ropes polyester cord, but we will be using 1/8 inch dyneema on the actual boat after painting etc.Thanks for watching again.

On the tane and tanenui catamarans, they had a wedge type block on the tillers, under the tiller connecting beam, the wedges matched the angles of the stern post's, to stop it binding on the tillers, do the tiki's have this set-up? Thanks for your videos they are greatly appreciated. All the best
@RexandKathie2 жыл бұрын
Yes, we haven't got the wedge on the tillers yet but they will be there eventually. Thank you for watching.
@elados69542 жыл бұрын
@@RexandKathie ok thanks I wasn't sure if the tiki's did or not. Cheers all the best
