Driving the Model 3 in Chill Mode is cool, right?! It is not! Only beginners and old people drive in Chill Mode. Real drivers are in Standard to always have the maximum power available.
So, I'm doing the test between Chill and Standard mode for acceleration, power, consumption and... battery degradation. Wait, what? Did I say there is a difference in battery degradation between these two modes? Here is the data...

I have it in standard mode all the time as I bought a performance model but I don’t drive everywhere flooring it off the line all the time and unless you’re planning on keeping the car for life stop worrying about things wearing out and just enjoy it. Saying that do whatever makes you happy 😜👍

Of course you can drive normally in normal mode, hahaha. I just like the softer accelerator...

You have the pedal to control the rate of acceleration it's quite redundant to apply 'chill mode'. In chill mode you unnecessarily limit this rate what you could do also only with you are not flooring it. Driving in standard mode doesn't require you to always drive fast only that the potential is there, in chill mode you don't gain anything you only lose something.

The car should come in chill mode by default for all new owners. That would give them some time to get used to the acceleration of an electric vehicle. After getting comfortable with the vehicle they can put it on standard if they wish. I think some of the accidents where people run into buildings or their garages is because it accelerates so fast and people are not expecting it. They need some time to get used to the pedal.

Tesla fixed that issue where the car accelerates fast when there is an obstacle. There was a software update to prevent this from happening a while back.

European manufacturers discovered that Americans are used to the gas pedal being way below the brake pedal........Audi learned the hard way.......from civil suits for ‘unintended acceleration’ . They were confused.

You are not alone I drive mine in chill mode all the time and I'm 36 years old I did try it once in standard, it was fun but I prefer longevity and efficiency over the power. And I have not had any noticeable degradation in the 6 months I have owned the car. In fact the range has gone from 272 to 285 estimated range. I don't know if it will actually go that far but it is interesting and I make a game of it.

Me too, I drive like Miss Daisy in chill. I’m happy at just 80 kph ........no traffic...what’s the rush. I value my asset too much to take it for granted and abuse it. Aero efficiency - yesterday I drove a return trip, totalling 58 kms, to a vet. The 30 kph tail wind down saw 114 wh/km BUT with the exact same headwind back the total trip average wh/km was just 115. (Trip card ‘since charge’) The energy graph (with 8 km tail wind missing) said 108 wh/km ! The mangalore ap met data 11:00 - 12:30 gives the wind speed/direction. I’m still scratching my head.

Yep, I usually drive under the speedlimit if I've got the time. It extends the time I can be in the car, right?!
@davidpearn5925

unplugged EV THAT’S IT ! Any excuse for a drive. I repeated the 58 km north - south return run this morning with the same wind and got back with an average of 115 wh/km. (the energy graph said 108) Any wind is a penalty - the stronger the greater. Is a north south magnet travel alignment a factor in this remarkable efficiency result ?

Heard now for the first time there is a chill mode. I will try it when I drive to Holliday. Like to see if the range I get will be better. Thanks for showing.

It is so much fun.. to see you Andy 😀 For first months of having Tesla I was also dring on C.M... I Bet if you have higher Soc it would be even better.. I notice on modS significant difference between acceleration on 45% and 85..90% Soc.. Soh dropp is interesting observation... Hopefully it will come back to the level from before test 👍

Chill Mode for me too. Some of the same reasons, I don't like that quick acceleration at the top of the pedal, wore out my first set of tires in 18,000 miles, better w/M, I am getting 210 w/M or 130 w/K. I have a 2018 LR RWD which also helps my watts per mile. I too am older (70). I wish the acceleration would be max at max pedal in Chill Mode. So I wonder if there are other things that happen in Chill Mode like less AC or ??

This guy has a drag racing app on his phone but he drives his standard range plus in chill mode? At least he drives around with no shirt. That is a total G move good work comrade

The app was just for the video. I've deleted it again afterwards. I was interested about the difference in acceleration. It feels significant but I could not care less if the car accelerates 2s slower ;)

Addictive isn’t it Andy. My wife started in chill mode for a day or so now she leaves it in standard mode all the time in our m3p. This car is never boring.

It is never boring, that's right. A colleague bought a Kia Stinger 6 months ago. He was bragging all the time about it. Now, it's a 6 month old car and he's been quite for a while. I tell him about the software updates all the time and how much better the car got over time. Nothing for his car since he got it :D

Last weekend a low loader shed a plasterboard panel which broke the OS headlight and scuffed the front paintwork. I was shocked but remembered to toot the horn .....and sure enough the police report had the exact time and vision as evidence. We are looking for a replacement for our Vitara and I keep thinking of what we won’t get if it’s a different brand. I’ve had innumerable cars since the late 50s but nothing comes remotely close to this automotive love affair. We want a compact Tesla crossover.......please Elon !

The nice thing about the P is that it doesn’t have a chill mode. 👍 (Well maybe it does, but I’ve never looked for it. 😆) BTW, I lied. My wife uses chill mode. 🤔

I have little choice as FSD Beta will not allow "Standard" mode. Still, compared to almost every ICE car on the road it's a rocket off the line.

In chill mode it’s just as fast it’s just that the pedal doesn’t kick in as fast but if you put it to the floor It will get after it but it won’t snap your head back

I’m confused about the delay in getting to 50 but can’t accept 0.6 from 50-80 ......that’s ridiculous ! In fact the 5.3 is quicker than spec.

david pearn What are you confused about? Chill mode they just slow down the response of the pedal if you don’t like it put it in standard
