Acts 20:7 - "Now on the first day of the week, when the disciples came together to break bread, Paul, ready to depart the next day, spoke to them and continued his message until midnight." I have heard this text explained in different ways. One pastor long time ago explain to me that just like the Sabbath is kept from sundown to sundown, the way we look at this verse should be the same way. So when it says the first day it could be after the 12th hour or after the sundown of Sabbath, when the disciples stopped to have dinner. So the first day here could be Sabbath evening. Interesting to see also is that the verse says Paul was ready to depart the next day, the following day or some translations use the word morrow. Could this simply mean Paul was ready to depart at the next daylight? I thought about this for a while and it makes perfect sense for a few reasons. When Jesus preached all day He got concerned for the people that were there without food all that time, but we're not seeing this here. If we look at those being Sunday morning when the disciples came together to eat and Paul got up and packed all day, all evening and all the way until midnight, wouldn't Luke be more specific about it? The verse doesn't mentioned a second or third breaking of bread only once, and the fact that Luke mentions midnight it kinda gives me the impression that as the disciples were finishing up supper and all the questions that probably came up while they were eating, Paul got up and started to preach. This also makes sense to me because they were already together during the Sabbath day, and all the people were there listening to them so Paul took advantage of that opportunity and gave them one last message before he departed on the morning. I'm not doubting that Paul could preach from morning to midnight, but it seems unlikely that he did that and liked didn't take the chance to emphasize it. This is how I read this verse... "Now immediately after sundown on Sabbath, when the disciples came together to eat supper, Paul, ready to depart the next morning, spoke to them and continued his message until midnight."

@@samueldematos3073 you have to understand Jewish law .Passover Sabbath is one of the highest Sabbath of the year... Which is the day following preparation day John 19: 31. That is established by the moon.. it's an annual Sabbath.. it's not established like a weekly Sabbath.. read Exodus 12.( Nissan 14 is preparation day..) so now you have to apply every scripture that is written about the subject.. so for all of this to be true. That I told you.. you have to read Luke 23:56. It has to match mark 16: 1.... It also has to match the prophecy Jesus Christ himself said 3 days and three nights.. so John says the next day after preparation day is ( High holy Sabbath)... look how it is written.. in the King James.. so in Luke the women bought the spices before Sabbath.. in Mark they bought the spices after the the Sabbath. Lets you know preparation day was on Wednesday which can be verified by US naval observatory calendars. Greenwich village England time. Placed 2 hours ahead of time for time to match Israeli time. Which happened in the year 28 or the year 31.. look at your calendar for 2023.. it lays out exactly the same way. There's (two sabbaths )!in that same week.. it's always been that way!

I'm sorry Jim, it seems like you study a lot to answer this question, and there are a few things that I would question on your reply. You mentioned about Jesus's own Prophecy about the 3 days and 3 nights, but Jesus's wasn't taking about the tomb, Jesus said he would be in the heart of the world, which is a terminology used for Jerusalem. If you accompany the book of John which most of the chapters are on the last week of Jesus you will see that everyday leading up to passover Jesus went into the city Jerusalem in the day and came back to Bethany at night, but on passover Thursday he stayed in Jerusalem being judged, crucified and then resurrected on the first day. So, if Jesus rose on Sabbath than why did almost all Christian denominations keep Sunday? Jesus is God the Son, and they Bible says Jesus is the same yesterday, today and forever, so if Jesus rose in Sabbath than Jesus changed and Jesus goes against the scriptures. Like I mentioned, you study a lot and make a compelling point, but I rather go with the Bible without looking into the traditions of man and trying to read in between the lines. The Godhead (Father, Son and Holy Spirit), kept the Sabbath before creation and instituted the Sabbath for man at creation, so why would God change? Jesus's death was a prophecy in the old testament, but Matthew, Mark, Luke and John are telling history, and all I have to do is read history without any man made interpretation. The first tabernacle, built according to God's directions, was indeed blessed of Him. The people thus were preparing themselves to worship in the temple not made with hands-a temple in the heavens. Dear Pastor Doug, I think you might reconsider your theory on the verse you read regarding “some not seeing death before they see the kingdom of God”. Check out Luke chapter 17. I think we can understand that what Jesus meant was some of them would be saved from sin because the Kingdom of God is not something that can be observed but the kingdom of God resides in the hearts of the righteous.

Can they die? Can they be destroyed? When the demons/ devils/ fallen angels spoke to Jesus what did they say? See Matthew 8:29 “ what have we to do with thee , Jesus, thou Son of God? art thou come hither to torment us before the time?” See also Revelation 20:9-10, Malachi Chapter 4. How does the devil know he has but a short time to work? Revelation 12:12. The angels that fell were given a probationary time to prove their claim that God is not fair/ just, then they are given a “timeout “ to reflect on their actions . See Revelation 20:2-3. Ezekiel Chapter 28 gives a small glimpse of Satan’s fall . Six thousand years of work for the evil angels and a thousand years rest for reflection ( Revelation 20: 3).

The Greek word for "war" in Revelation 12:7 is "polemos" where also the word "polemic" is derived. If you research the word you will see, that it is about arguments, fighting with words, opinions, debating. Satan can not fight against God with a physical weapon. He uses lies, falsehood, and perverts the Word of God and his Character. He is called "the accuser of the brethren"

@@jimbob1644 No, the devil is being blamed as the ultimate cause of all sin. He didn’t die for any sins of Israel, as that goat was sent away from the congregation. Why would I want to believe in the goat that didn’t die for me? There were two goats, one was for the Lord, and the other was for the land of departure. This used to be Protestant teaching that the scapegoat represented our adversary the Devil, who is ultimately responsible for all sin. He doesn’t die for our sins, he dies alone in the wilderness for his sins. A goat without a shepherd out in the wilderness that was domesticated will die alone. Not sure why people want to reject this potential understanding of this without looking up what Protestants used to believe concerning the day of atonement. God bless.

Why is there belief amongst some that it never rained before the flood of Noah? Back in Genesis it tells us that God divided the waters above from the waters below and that it was called firmament and watered the earth. That's clouds and rain, so why wouldn't it have ever rained before the Great Flood like some teach?

Genesis 2:6 But there went up a mist from the earth, and watered the whole face of the ground (the earth was watered from a mist that watered the whole face of the earth, not rain. If it was rain then it would have mentioned this). Genesis 9:13 I do set my bow in the cloud, and it shall be for a token of a covenant between me and the earth. (There was no mention of rainbows before the flood).

It is still a war between evil and good ( Satanic forces and the heavenly) . Are the weapons words or swords? Satan helps kill his enemies every day: example Jesus. He goes about like a roaring lion seeking whom he will devour. First Peter 5:8. The same as the Holy Spirit he whispers suggestions, but his are wicked and he can do what the Holy cannot ,lie, trick, and deceive. God gave us a good weapon to use : His own sword, His words to us : both written and in the person of Jesus Christ. Hebrews 4:12. The Sabbath is a type of the Millennium. It does not symbolize any metaphysical "rest in Christ". If that were the case, Acts wouldn't clearly show Paul continuing to observe the Sabbath. The whole book consistently shows that it was the day that Paul usually preached to ppl after his conversion. Has this pastor read the entire kjv Bible to his flock ? It takes about 5 to 6 years to read the entire Bible to a congregation if you go 1 hour each lesson.
