I live in SoCal and l'm hoping for changes. But imagine how getting rid of smog testing would effect the CA economy. There's a smog test place on every corner. I go to a shop that basically does nothing but smog tests. They would all be shut down. Not only that but there would be no need for all the specialty parts that are needed to stay within the smog laws.

Just to clarify, the waters from Kaweah Lake(Terminus Dam) and Successful Lake (Shaffer Dam) end up in the Tulare Lake basin, and are used for irrigation. So that water doesnt end up in Southern California. The Central Valley Project ( California Aqueduct) does send water to Southern California, at least this is my understanding. I live in the vicinity of both lakes, and we have have a good rain maker hitting today. Im only trying to add clarity

Have you or anyone else here read the CAFE standards? I did, it is ridiculous! It defines why and how all vehicles are getting larger and heavier each year with no real increase in efficiency. Also the inverse potential of small efficient vehicles would have to have very high efficiency. So a relic from the past like one of the 70’s “tiny” pickup trucks would have to get high 50’s to 60’s mpg. Just like they should…🧐

Hey TK, As far as auto regulation goes nothing would make me happier than the Cafe standards going away. We all love the power of the V-8's but Cafe standards going away would also give people a choice of buying a vehicle that gets decent mileage again. Remember when the Honda Civic first came to the US in 73? A friend's brother had one. He said the thing got 52 MPG. I bought my first wife a 92 Toyota Tercel that got 42 MPG with five of us in the car with the trunk loaded completely full. My 83 and 86 Toyota pick-ups got 27 MPG highway. The Cafe standards killed it for everyone, for mussel car enthusiasts and people that wanted vehicles with good gas mileage too. Oh yeah I almost forgot, my 68 Camaro with it's 350 horse 327 got 18 MPG highway after I put the 650 Holley Spreadbore carburetor on it, as long as l kept my foot out of those big secondaries.

I lived through the gas wars of the 70s. What motivated those high mpg car purchases was not the comfort level or utility of Japanese cars....it was the cost of gasoline. It cost too much to run the land yachts that everybody loved driving. My father in law had a 1974 Coupe DeVille that had a 500 cubic inch V8. The miles flew by effortlessly and all kinds of room for six adults and huge trunk for luggage. The current plan is to dramatically lower fuel prices, which btw, is the basic factor in the cost of nearly everything Americans buy. Low fuel prices, you don't need to drive an econobox.

What I'm attempting to say is that it would be really nice to have the option. Why not have an econo box and a rip up the asphalt mussel car? Interesting. I was thinking about 49 state compliant vehicles earlier today. My memory of that may go back decades but it still may be a thing. Or you just make 50 state compliant vehicles and make the California "rules" the guiding values. So the California emissions need to go away as well. No longer can CA dictate how the country rolls. I hope that Diesel and Diesel RV smog requirements goes away. Shine people already sold their new diesel trucks. What's crazy is that in California, not all counties need to do smog AT ALL. Lake County and I think Clearlake, CA are examples of counties that residents so not have to smog vehicles if any kind. It never made any sense to the rest of California.
