EPCOT! Correcting my misconceptions...

EPCOT! I grew up in Anaheim California, right next to the original Disneyland. As a kid growing up in the 80s and 90s, I heard a lot about Epcot. It was all the rage, it was brand-new! Unfortunately along with the media blitz promoting Epcot came some misconceptions for those of us growing up on the West Coast. So I'm happy to be here finally visiting Epcot spending some time in it with my good friend Adam The Woo, and learning about yesterday's world of tomorrow...

Justin, I had the same misconceptions as well about EPCOT growing up in Anaheim. I'm old enough to remember the special they did a special on EPCOT (I'm not Googling this...all from memory) hosted by Michael Landon on channel 4/NBC when they used to show WWofDisney.

I grew up in Southern California my whole life and never been to WDW. I always thought it was a Big empty golf ball on a Disney golf course they had at epcot lol

I love Spaceship Earth. It's one of my favourite attractions. I like the previous narration by Jeremy Irons best but the Dame Judi Dench version has grown on me. I am also bummed out that Maelstrom is gone. I enjoyed that ride. I hope you enjoyed Epcot. It's my favourite Disney park.

You need way more that four or five days to experience the four main parks. The water parks are fun too.

The Horizons attraction was the sequel to Carousel of Progress. You got to see some of the props from Horizons on the Peoplemover. I think they should do an expansion of Tommorowland and bring back Horizons there. I'll always prefer EPCOT Center to EPCOT Park. It's still great but there was something very distinctive and different about the original. It's too much like Magic Kingdom now.

Epcot is my favorite! I'm glad you are experiencing it now, but I wish you been able to experience old school EPCOT Center. Horizons, World of Motion, original Journey into Imagination with Figment, The Living Seas (pre-Nemo), Wonders of Life pavilion, etc. But at least you were able to ride Maelstrom five years ago. That was among my all time favorite Disney attractions.

Remember the old ads where Mickey was standing on top of the ball and waving? I have to say I'm glad I got to see the original Epcot. It was super awesome and futuristic!

I thought there was something in there like maybe what my husband, John said too. However, now that I think about it, when I was younger we went on a field trip somewhere and I'm imagining that place with my friends from school to be Epcot...but it probably wasn't because the field trip was probably in Arizona. Sorry, too much information; I know. :)

Stop standing in the fast pass kiosk line...download the my Disney experience app and link your annual passes or whatever you have...and book your fast passes days in advance...once you have used all 3 fast passes then stand in line at a kiosk for a 4th fast pass and once you use it you can do a 5th and so on....after 3 they are rolling fast passes but must be made at a kiosk...also your rolling fast passes can be used at a different park...ENJOY!

It is funny that you talk about not knowing what Spaceship Earth was. I agree that until I went there with my family, I had no idea that there was even anything in that ball. I saw pictures of it and different videos of it, including in an episode of Full House. But I never realized that it was a ride, I thought it was a static icon for the park much like the castle was at Disneyland for so long. Until I saw it I could not imagine a ride in there.

Horizons was the sequel to the carousel IMO. Love Spaceship Earth too. We need a new Horizons type ride, or the sequel to IT! If SSE is the heart of EPCOT, Horizons was it's soul.

i thought walt liked golf, so he built giant one to put in the center and called it epcot and that all of walt disney world was disney representations of many countries. i thought this until last year. when i found out the area with the different countries was a lot smaller than i thought it was and that it wasnt the only thing in disney world. oh and i blame full house for this misconception ha

Walt Disney actually wanted all of EPCOT inside a glass dome! I thought that was alittle weird! Look up Walt Disney's WDW film that he did in Novenber of 1966. Healso talks mostly about his vision and plans for EPCOT. Some of those plans are JUST comming into fruition now with the living spaces that WDW is now accomidating. The 1966 EPCOT film is on KZbin.

I grew up in the Midwest. When they showed this on TV (TGIF shows and such) I always thought it was just a giant golf ball because it was Florida. Lol! I actually had no idea how large Disney World was until my Husband took me for our honeymoon.

So I watched a video earlier today that popped up in my inbox letting me know Fresh Baked had uploaded a video, and wouldn't you know it, there was Adam the Woo hanging out and talking to Dave and Sarah at Disneyland. Hilarious that you would think the whole park was in the "golf ball" as I have always called it (others in my family say that too). I've probably been there the most often of any park. Horizons was the sequel to Carousel of Progress as previous comments have stated. It was that strange looking building that they got rid of for Mission Space.

EPICOT! In the 80's we had little info so we had to guess a lot and make up the rest. The ball was it all!

If you have an Annual Pass for Disneyland does it work for Walt Disney World and the other parks too? Or do you have to buy a new ticket for each park?

+JustinianProductions There is one that covers Florida Disney parks, one that covers California Disney parks and one that covers both. I would assume that since they live in California and the combined pass is more expensive that they just bought day passes for Florida.
