[ EPCOT ] Mission: SPACE - Walt Disney World Florida POV

Mission: SPACE, a motion simulator ride at Epcot theme park, is as close as you can get to blasting off into space without leaving Earth. This attraction for big kids, teens and adults realistically mimics what an astronaut might experience during a space flight to Mars(if you take the orange path).
There are two paths to take:
The Mars(Orange) Mission includes liftoff from the ISTC, a slingshot around the moon for a gravity-assisted boost, a brief period of simulated hyper-sleep (to pass the lengthy time required to reach Mars), and a descent for landing on the Martian surface, where riders manually control the vehicle with a joystick. As a training exercise, the mission contains several unexpected situations that add to the drama, this mission is the most intense because of the spinning cars that expose riders to forces up to 2.5G, more than twice the force of gravity at the Earth's surface (effectively multiplying a rider's weight by 2.5). A few months after the ride's opening, motion sickness bags were added within easy reach of riders.
The Earth(Green) Mission includes liftoff from the ISTC, an orbiting tour of the Earth, and a descent back to the ISTC that involves riders having to manually navigate through a thunderstorm over the landing runway using their joystick, this mission is more tame with the cars not spinning as much, thus eliminating the forces of lateral acceleration for riders who choose the more tame experience. The cabs themselves still pitch and pivot, providing some motion.

My husband age 73 and I age 67 remembered going on this ride when it first came out. So we got on again and got into the shortest line, the orange line! OMG! We are lucky we survived! After crawling out and hanging on the walls to get outside we sat on the nearest bench until two park workers saw us and got us wheelchairs and barf bags. They took us to the first aid station where hubby’s usually normal blood pressure was way high! Took him at least two hours lying on a cot before he could get upright again without hurling! We were so nauseated! That was the last thrill ride these old farts will ever get on! From now on, It’s a Small World will have to do!

Basically you get in this "capsule" and when you take off your capsule spins really fast to create centrifugal force on your body. You feel g-forces and it is pretty intense. Thats really the thrilling thing about it.

It’s from the movie Mission to Mars. In the movie their friend is stuck on Mars after his whole crew died. They were trying to colonize Mars. So they launch into space to save him. That’s why their are structures on Mars. It’s not a mistake, just most people haven’t seen the movie in this day and age so they changed the characters to be more relevant. Story looks the same though.

For the confusion: The Orange space shuttle spins on the outside so it acts like your in a real rocket.The spinning simulates gravity making you feel like your being pulled down. The Green: Does everything the The Orange ride does except for the spinning. The spinning can make some people sick so they have The Green ticket for people who do not want that feeling. I rode the Green first and then the Orange. Orange is no joke, the simulated G-force was fairly intense for a theme park ride. I became queezy during the Mars Landing portion but fortunately didn’t throw up. I’ll stay with Green for any future rides.

One of the best rides at Epcot! The G-force is strong on Orange, but green is just as fun (no G-force on green)! Green ane Orange have two seperate stories When I rode this one time with a stranger and my sister, we ended up playfully yelling each other out of pure excitement! No anger, all fun! As a rather shy and reserved person this was a dream come true and one of my favorite rides on this!

This was the first ride we rode at Disney. We wanted to do test track first but it was at a two hour wait, so we went to this. My family usually loves thrilling rides so we went orange and ignored all of the warnings. After we finished(My family was in two different simulation, the kids were in one and the adults in the other) the kids were fine, a little motion sick, but the adults looked like they had been riding a l roller coaster all day long, we had to wait an hour before they got a low from their Motion sickness

I loved this! I'm a huge astronomy need myself, so when I saw that I actually got to control the spaceship, I was ecstatic! I think that's what set it apart from other simulator rides; the fact that you could interact with it - or at the very least, make you feel like it. Universal Studios doesn't do that...

I'm usually not one to get claustrophobic, I have been scuba diving since I was 12 years old. I even cave dived. But THIS.... this had me a little uneasy! I kept thinking what if the machine broke down and we were trapped in there for hours. You have literally no space between you and the panel and you are locked in with shoulder harnesses. I felt like I was being buried alive in a technical tomb!!

Ok, I've been on this several times. Note: if you have anxiety, do not get in this. A lady got on with me and a buddy of mine and freaked out before take off. She started banging on the doors and she passed out almost at the end of it. The G-force is not as bad as the original (hence why some people died). This made my blood pressure go up a bit (so obviously do not go if you have blood pressure problems or heart conditions). It is said that it now only excerpts 2.5-3Gs of force on you. Great ride for thrill seekers but not for kids or persons with any type of condition that will cause some sort of organ failure.

You have to collect a boarding pass with fully printed warnings, which you hand back at the queue entrance (seen at the beginning of the video). The safety videos in the queue repeatedly state and show that the ride can be intense, and suggests people ride the milder version if they have any doubts about it. The first preshow also includes these warnings repeatedly, and tell people to request to bypass the ride if they can't handle it. Warnings before the second preshow reiterate the warnings and again suggests skipping the ride if you have any doubts. The second preshow before boarding includes this warning again, before giving more specific instructions on how to handle the ride's forces. If you've seen all that and _still_ choose to ride the intense version, it's your fault for being completely oblivious.

We rode the mars version this year. Awesome doesn't begin to describe it. Our 8 year old daughter was the "pilot" and she was getting upset. She was afraid she'd get us killed. It was so cute. Those G forces were incredible feeling and I'm an overweight 52 year old; I could ride it over and over. My wife didn't like it though.

I remember going on this with my family, so much fun but the motion sickness at the time meant that I couldn’t focus on the buttons without feeling like I was gonna vomit. I settled down again almost immediately once the ride stopped though. I would definitely ride again, but if you’re claustrophobic I wouldn’t recommend it, the pods and seat restraints are very compact (I’m 5ft 2” btw) and the g-forces make it an intense experience.

Try Intimidator 305* at Kings Dominion if you want another stupidly intense ride with a lot of sustained Gs (so intense it's not uncommon for people to pass out while riding). *Currently operating as Project 305 while a more permanent retheme is in the works for next season

Just went on this ride over my vacation. Never get sick on rides so I chose the orange (more intense) option. I didn’t get sick but my equilibrium took a day and a half to feel back on track. It’s intense to say the least.

this was one of the best parts of disney/universal/epcot. the video doesn't do it justice. it straight up feels real when you are in it. its a legit shuttle simulator that they created a little movie out of. They got them from NASA.

it's because they essentially have you upside down and spinning like a roller coaster, so you get that constant belly-less feeling like you get going around a ramp on a coaster.

in epcot, there is an easy and intense version of the ride with 2 different lines. my dad who like me has motion sickness, decided to go on the intense version because “it’s disney. it can’t be that bad... can it?” it was that bad. couldn’t calm down for the rest of the day.

This was my #1 favorite ride as a kid. My sister was the polar opposite though. But I dont know if I'd be able to do this one without getting a bit sick now as an adult lmao.

I just got back from Disney and let me tell you it’s better than the video (I was the engineer) but on the earth Mission I was the pilot I recommend doing the earth one first because on the mars one your body experiences G-force and you might feel disoriented or you might get motion sickness Also if your planning to go on the mars one make sure to take deep breath’s before you get on

My family and I went on this ride having no idea what it was, we just chose the next ride and decided why not. We thought it was just a roller coaster or something and chose the orange ticket thinking it was just part of the experience. By the time we actually read the warnings we were already up next so we just went for it. It was definitely a cool experiment but we regretted it afterwards. All 11 of us got so sick we had to sit and wait about an hour before we felt like we could even walk to another ride.

I rode this before they divided into orange and green lines. Dunno how orange is compared to that, but as a 20-something who doesn't tolerate dizzy bat well, I was desperate to feel better mid-ride. I looked to the side, something they warn you not to do. Didn't know it was possible to feel worse. Just made ending of the ride before we reached level barf bag. I enjoy coasters, so I don't judge folks who skip this ride.

The G Forces on the Orange is said to be very realistic with up to 2.5 Gs. You know if a ride has barf rides it is going to be either great or worse than you can ever imagine.

The green is not bad at all.... I personally have never done orange. Going in December and I’m debating. I usually can handle rides with a g force pretty well.

They do. But as long as you keep your eyes on the screen and stay engaged in what is happening, you won't get sick. Keep your head back on the chair, and have fun. It's intense, but you just laugh and laugh. It's so much fun. I get motion sickness very easily, and I still loved it. So you'd be fine.
