😲...My search for this elusive species is nothing new! Actually, the Quest for the Muskellunge is a series that I put on hold here on my KZbin Channel. The first ever episode was released on December 5th, 2019: • Searching For My FIRST... . After this one, I am contemplating on bringing it back. What do you guys think?! 😲...I originally intended to shoot a video on the EuroTackle EuroTube that day! That's why you see a PINK 1.75" EuroTube in the "bonus clip" of this video. After not getting a single bite on the River for over two hours, I switched to the Hawk In-Line Spinner and started casting. I hooked that Muskellunge on my 3rd cast there...and then, I decided to shoot a video using that footage as the main theme. 😈
😲...In over ten years of fishing the Schuylkill River, this was only my 2nd ever "Schuylkill Musky." Needless to say, both of them got away. 😞 The first one I hooked years ago, under the Fairmount Dam.

Brought back memories of the first time I hooked a Muskie at Beltsville Reservoir north of Allentown, PA back in the '70's. I was totally unprepared but did get him to the boat before he decided he didn't want to play anymore. Take this feeling and multiply it by 10,000 when you finally land one. It is an experience!

I never rooted harder for you to catch a fish Leo! I landed one on 8 Lb, test ,but it was winter ,and it was sluggish. The only one I've ever caught.

Don't feel bad about losing that musky. I lost one after it destroyed my steel leader. Once they are hooked, the clock starts for something to fail.

You should try some European-style pike fishing lures to catch your musky lifer. I recommend you to get yourself a Rapala X-rap Haku (pike jerkbait) and a Panther Martin "fiocco rosso" size 28 (legendary pike spoon). And most important, some long-reach pliers to unhook the fish. The Esox is always lurking in current brakes, cool water rich in vegetation; they might not want to bite your lure, but they're always out there, just NEVER give up on them. I know you'll get your hands on one of those beauties ;)

Small lures during the summer is your best bet… They aren’t on the feed yet getting ready to hunker down for the fall. Size 5 spinner, 4 inch jerks and 3-4 inch spoons. Especially in the river they have all the options to eat big fish small fish and other creatures in the water. So something small and an easy presentation especially because the water temp is warmer in the summer. But I live in Canada so maybe it’s different! I fish rivers, lakes you name it! So just to see how different people fish is amazing! Of course if he had 50lb leader and 20lb mainline he would have most likely caught it!

I know that setup can handle big fish! I got the same setup because you reccomended it, to use for micro fishing and bait fishing. Using teeny tiny fish bite pieces on a trout magnet to catch pinfish for bait I ended up hooking a huge black drum. Took forever to land it and it was a heck of a fight but I managed to bring it in. 32-37lbs was the range on folks digital scales. I only had 2lbs line on mine at the time as I had it for very tiny fish and bait, never expected it! I bet if you had that spinner on a wire leader you could have landed it eventually. I feel for you, toothy fish have their ways of breaking our hearts.

It happened to me my first Muskie was like a 30 pounds fish I was using 8 pounds text line and a tube green and I lost it man it was bad I feel like I died that day and the funny thing was that my friend next to me landed a 25 pounds Muskie in the same place in the same day with 6 pounds text line and a ultra light rod 😅 but make a series of Muskie fishing it will be fun to watch bro!!!

This video hurt so much to watch. I knew the outcome as soon as I saw it hooked. The odds of landing a musky on 4lbs test and an ultralight is very, very, very difficult. Maybe it would be possible if it was in a shallow, narrow stretch where it couldn't have much room to maneuver or make a run, but there was just too much water here. It was a valiant effort. I've lost small chain pickerel on 4 lbs test because sometimes it's impossible to avoid the teeth, so for a fish THAT big (with obviously bigger teeth) ... yeah, you didn't stand much of a chance. But it was a good try. I hope you make a revenge video some time because I've really wanted to see you go all out for muskies so badly although I'd settle for a Schuylkill flathead too.

My dad caught his an 8 pound test on a hook with a spoon and earthworm. They like slender meals like the hawk in-line because of how their mouths are shaped! They do what they want with smaller rods!

I was fishing off of a limestone cliff the other day and had an 8 + pound bass I fought it and it was right below me and it was tired but there was no way to get it up on the cliff I gave it a shot and tried to pull it up by the line and the hook pulled . I know your pain brother lol it’s crushing to lose a big fish . Thankfully I have already caught a bass over 10lbs so it’s not like that was my Pb but it would have made a great pic!

Man I hope that you get yourself a musky not too far in the future. They are so incredibly powerful and amazing fish. I caught two tiger musky and lost a third this year while bass fishing. My advice is just keep casting and eventually you will land one leo, I know you will.
