Death does not exist. The double split experiment proves Quantum law is real. Reality cannot exist without an observer! Observer is another name for "Creator of Reality"! Creator / God / Consciousness. Without conscience no Reality! Does the tree that falls in a jungle without anyone there to actually hear it make a sound? The answer is "No! There is no sound, there is no tree!" People still think their SOUL or CONSCIENCE is a RESULT of their BRAIN. But brain is organic MATTER, and matter cannot exist without an "external" observer... so we are all are gods in our own way and quantum thus also implies that CONSCIENCE has NO END (which I can understand) but also has NO BEGINNING, which is something I still cannot wrap my head around lol. But the double split experiment stares you right into your face and makes fun of you! Quantum is absurd. Don't try to understand it, because it is non-sensical in the 1st place, yet quantum is a fact! It is a scientifical proven fact! So death does not exist! Your mother is... in let's call it another dimension if you will, but her soul is immortal... separation hurts! Saying goodbye always hurt, and I am sorry for that pain. But she ain't dead because death is a lie, death does simply not exist. All is! Let quantum cheer you up! Don't loose yourself in formulas and equations, those string theory scientists have opened the door to knowledge but instead of appreciating their discovery, they lost themselves in the jungle of their own thoughts, and looked too far ahead while they only needed to look at what is, and has always been, right in front of their eyes! Your mom's unending energy cannot be lost, will never be lost, she will always be with you! Rest assured of this. I just KNOW that what I say is TRUE. Everything Is, Everything Was and Everything Will Always Be! Quantum rulez (at least in the Matrix we think is our REAL WORLD, but it is just a simulation...)

This is one of the few films I’ve seen featured on MST3k that I just genuinely enjoy for its own merits. It’s a perfect microcosm of the eighties’s particular interpretation of the future. The bad stuff is goofy without being off-putting. Raul Julia is just giving the role everything he’s got. And damn it, the idea of transferring your entire mind and soul onto a vulnerable flash drive is pretty intriguing. But seriously-did an anteater kill the director’s father over a rigged poker game or something? Why all the hate?

@monophylosfortikos42159 жыл бұрын
What gets me every time I cue this episode up is how desperately Apollonia mishandles the situation when she's trying to keep Fingal pacified. If she'd identified herself immediately and basically said, "Um, you're gonna have to sit tight in the Matrix for a while, just chill in your room or something," the situation would probably have been defused. Instead she fuels Fingal's paranoia right from the start by pretending to be other people (a telephone operator, his mother) and delivering cryptic and very worrying messages. What the heck was that supposed to accomplish? Another thing: even though Novicorp and the "Fat Man" are supposed to be the bad guys, really they are _incredibly_ patient with Fingal when you think about it. He's doing a lot of damage, screwing up the world's weather and shit like that, but they're still willing to give him a chance at rescue. And why is he in this situation in the first place? Pissing around at work watching movies instead of doing his job. The film tries to pretend Fingal is some kind of rebel against an unjust system but he comes across like a spoiled, selfish asshole who ruins every chance given him.

from what i understand, a lot of those elements are leftovers from the original short story (fingal was a voluntary dopple, appolonia could only communicate indirectly or via extraspecial circumstances, medical technology being refined and automated to the extent that working in health care is the same level as our fast food (hence Doby?), Fingal Time, the lack of any corporate angst etc)

Along with Alien From L.A.(1988), Overdrawn at TMB (1983) is a b-movie classic, the MST3K treatment of which is both entertaining & soothing. + Kathy Ireland's acting zenith, Mr. Eating Raul, & Pearl PTV. "Let's watch, won't we?" Alien From L.A. and OATMB represent MST3K in apex-mode as the movies themselves, despite being highly derivative, are actually decent films in their own right and w/the addition of Mike and the Bots high-quality riffing transcend their b-movie roots entirely to become resplendent cinematic entities that are as strangely calming as they are fun to screen. Finally, Overdrawn ATMB shares the distinction of being one of the few films to feature an "Apollonia", e.g. The Godfather (1974).

So this is the PBS version of _The Matrix?_
@Tindometari9 жыл бұрын
Sean D. Daily Actually, it's a great concept and the movie could have been much better than the *Matrix* if it had, you know, been better written, directed, and acted. But then again, I'm a massive Phil Dick fan.
@SeanDDaily9 жыл бұрын
Arkadia Moon: Hmmm... Well, if you put more of a Dick spin on it, then yeah: more faceless corporation ziggurats and less large sweating Shakespearean actors. I'd have to see it to believe it, though. You do get points for being a Dick fan, though.
@Tindometari9 жыл бұрын
Sean D. Daily I don't mind Raul Julia going Large Ham; it was virtually his professional speciality, after all. But the Chairman seemed fiercely determined to leave the marks of his teeth on every scrap of scenery in sight. He went full ham. Never go full ham. At least not when you're playing against Raul Julia, because no film could ever be big enough for that. I had to double-check that it *wasn't* based on a Dick story I'd somehow missed (the original was written by John Varley), because it seemed to have Phil's fingerprints all over it: as you say, the omnipotent corporate colossus, &c. It'd be really interesting to see a present-day attempt by more accomplished professionals to re-do this from go.
@SeanDDaily9 жыл бұрын
Arkadia Moon: I'm surprised it hasn't be rebooted and then rebooted _again_ yet. Hollywood seems to have rebooted everything else... I'm supposed to be a Dick fan, so why didn't I see Dick's fingerprints all over this? I mean, yeah, he didn't _write_ it, but it certainly uses a lot of Dick themes. Maybe it was the general public broadcasting vibe. Public broadcasting doesn't do faceless corporations and cold-sweat-soaked musings on the nature of identity and reality. Public broadcasting does _Downton Abbey._ You're right. Properly rewritten, and stripped of all its PBS DNA, it _could_ be all right. I'd like to see an independent studio do this. I'm afraid Hollywood would make it either too pretty or too _Dark Knight,_ and the _production notes..._
@Axolotl_Mischief9 жыл бұрын
+Sean D. Daily uh, yeah...as a huge PKD fan the title alone should set off alarms...We Can Remember it for You Wholesale...come on, even the protagonist's name is PKD goofy...the Matrix is Dickian sci fi so you were on the right track at least lol
