Epic 3-Day Hike to Frenchmans Cap: An Adventure in Tasmania's Southwest Wilderness

Itinerary Breakdown:
Day 1: Journey from Carpark to Vera Hut - A trek covering 15.9km with an elevation gain of 618m.
Day 2: Ascend from Vera Hut to Tahune Hut & reach the summit of Frenchmans Cap, traversing 14km and climbing 1035m.
Day 3: An unplanned rest day to avoid heavy rain that didn't come.
(Note: Staying multiple nights at a single hut is generally not permitted, but due to weather forecast and low occupancy, an exception was made. Always prepare for weather changes and follow park guidelines.)
Day 4: The return trek from Vera Hut to Carpark, spanning 22.8km with a 660m elevation gain.

I thoroughly enjoyed your detailed trip visiting the Frenchman. Totally agree with your comments regarding the spiritual influence experience of being out in the bush. I enjoyed the area twice in 1965 ( 2 days) and 1975 (4 days) Bit old to return now at 82 so armchair viewing is appreciated 😁

I’m thinking that in some sections of the tracks going down would have been more difficult at times than climbing up, but the effort you put in was soooo worthwhile. Thanks! Yes, it was much more beautiful than I was expecting 😁 For sure! It's a pretty technical track, but I've hiked a lot and my pack was quite light, so it was mostly fine. Just one section halfway up the summit that was a challenge, and didn't have a spare hand to film 😂
