Nicely done, Pierre. I appreciated your disclaimer also - it gave the review much more authenticity. Just subbed to your channel as a result.

Agree with you Pierre, I own a 690 epic graphene, one of the best rods. Only down side is the high cost. The cork grip is a little to big for my liking. I do have smaller hands and prefer the Sage foundation cork grip diameter. Have you tried their Fastglass rods?

Sorry for only seeing your reply now. Unfortunately not hey, would love to fish them. I can imagine casting at a tailing bonefish with their 888 is incredible fun! Do you own a Fastglass?

Hi Pierre - can you provide any insights as to how the g compares to the c? Is the g stiffer or faster? I only ask because I saw you own a 690c - trying to decide between a 590c vs 590g. Cheers

Hi Keir. I my opinion, get the G.

Thanks for your thoughts upon this blank and build.Great! If the graphene material makes a rod more effective or lighter or whatever is debatable. No test of this material in a rod blank have shown that it would make it more effective. And the blank, it's not lighter than the quality blanks out there without graphene. Sometimes the medicine will work, even if it's just made of sugar. But it's up to one and own to decide on this matter. If it makes you a more skillful fly caster it's a good thing. Anyway, they make great blanks and rods in NZ. And they are driven by one of the best places on earth to place a fly to a trout. Great video and enjoy the really nice rod you made yourself.

Hi Anders. Thanks for your comment, and I'm glad you brought it up - a very important point - and something that I maybe should have mentioned in the video. The stated improvements was a result of a lab test done by Epic's engineers, which could very well vary between different manufacturers. Graphene is certainly not this magical material that suddenly turns your rod into this perfect wand that will solve all your casting problems. No, it's a material that potentially offers a marginal improvement, as manufacturers have to continuously push themselves to remain relevant. Would I sell off my Epic 690C rod just to replace it with a 690G? Hell no. One thing is for certain, they (Epic) are blessed with an amazing rod testing facility.

An excellent review. What makes you prefer two locking rings over a single one? Epic certainly produces high quality but I wish their pricing was in NZ dollars as with a rampant US dollar they are becoming less affordable. Thanks from down-under in NZ.

Hi John! Well, it's both a mental and functional thing. I've struggled with some rods where the reel always comes loose. I guess that has more to do with the entire reel seat design and the reel's foot shape, not only the number of locking rings. Personal preference really - there were absolutely no issues with the reel seat Epic supplied. Regarding the price, I actually remember looking at their site a good while back and the prices, at that stage, was in NZD. At the moment they have some great specials on some of their building kits. Thanks for watching!
