At last a fly fishing video that loads line like how I thought it should be done and always have with my spinning reels. Load fly line on first so maximum use of that, then the cheaper backing to get exact levels desired without waste. Then just reload! If you have a spare spool even easier. Thanks from UK

I agree, I have an Eagle Claw 7’ 6 wt fiberglass rod that I purchased about 30 years ago. I only paid $20.00 for it’s been a great small stream rod.

Personally, Eagle Claw Featherlight - $25, or a Fenwick Eagle - $100. Overall great video, getting new anglers into fly fishing gets me hyped up man brings back memories.

For those rods that were said to be a little under powered to handle windier conditions, would going to a heavier weight, like an 8 wt. but perhaps using a 6 or 7 weight line help? Just wondering. I know this is older, but I was trying to find the Redington Crosswater (rod only).

I got the Clearwater #6 as a gift and was very dissapointed from it! It was pretty "numb" and slow. Especially at shorter range. Compared to other rods from Guideline, Vision or Greys in this price range which I compared directly, it fell behind clearly. Sold it after trying to get used to it for two years...really did not work out for me.

Judging from what I see in your casting Technics in this video, it's easy to see why you guys have trouble with long casts and accuracy. You would probably be amazed if you brushed up on your double haul. And yes jamesmccreery, the echo lift crushes them all.

Greys GR60 and now the follow up model Greys Lance 😉 Outstanding rods at their price level. Compared it to the Crosswater of a friend, which is also great. But the Greys are more accurate and sensitive. Beating a lot of more expensive rods I compared. Personally I don't know better rods for the money 👍🏻

Hello, fishermen, the video is o.k., but I think that every person is different, just like you have a different fingerprint than me. So it will be the same with fly rods, because everyone suits something different and it may not suit you at all, I am about 10 years older and I have been fishing for 55 years. This is a video with only a commercial appeal to the customer. You get 10% to 30% of the price depending on the company and the price of the goods and that's it. Have a nice day. Maybe someone will catch your stream.

I own seven Fly rods...all are ORVIS rods and four of them are ORVIS Clearwater. They are fine rods...the taper of the later models were based on the more costly Helios rods. ORVIS Clearwater rods offer some of the best bang for the buck.

Bought mine many years ago. I use it on my TFO Axiom 6wt and 8 weight fast action for fresh and saltwater in NZ. No issues yet. I just do soak it in tap water with the line on overnight after every saltwater session, then service it. After a week of freshwater fishing, I will soak it and service it. I use Vaseline most of the time. I also put a thin coating of Vaseline on my lines if I am not going to use it for a month or longer.

Always test the rods backbone as even the high $ rods are incorrect. Have had to hit budget rack on the road & always find a $450 rod for $20. Now ya know !!!

Still got my Lamson Liquid 3.5 for years. I just used it yesterday saltwater. Still works like a charm. Well maintained and serviced/soaked after each session. The drag can be sticky at times but it doesn't bother me. Adjust the drag to full then back it off. Problem solved.

Thanks for the great info. I just picked up the 9/10. Any recommendations for a rod to mount this bad boy on? Mainly for great lakes area river fishing.

You seem obsessed with tail-water fisheries. Tail-waters are artificial environments, in my opinion. Without the man-made dams, where would they be? Give me a natural, free flowing stream any day. Why no creeks? I've fished some of these rivers you talk about and done well, but I can also name a bunch of smaller waters (read: boat-less) that are better. I live not far from a well-known tail-water river and I catch more and bigger fish in a small creek nearer to home.

They used to....but later dropped it. I also wish it were still there. I hook onto one of the steel supports for the ceramic loop guide. You never want to hook into the ceramic loop guide directly.

Need to work on the review content. Not enough technical detail or comparison to the D version or other similarly priced rods by other brands or why the Helios is better than the Recon or Clearwater. But thanks anyway i did Like the video as you put the effort into making it. And it was good but my comments hopefully give you ideas. Told us colour not the length for example. How does it stack up at short medium long casting or using a bow and arrow method or heavy nymphs.

Well done young man! But I would simply LOVE for you to review the below travel fly rod by Rigged & Ready which I use with my Orvis Rocky Mountain Four fly reel for the 4WT set up and is as “smooth as butter” when casting and landing fish. But I’m very interested in your professional opinion on the product if you would be so inclined. 😇
