Good stuff Slym. You wouldn’t want to get stuck out there on your own! As I live on the edge of the NY Moors we used to do all sorts of xc rides over the moors in winter, following boggy singletrack that just disappears under your tyres until your stuck in the middle of spongy unrideable heather that sucks your energy dry when walking with the bike. We tend to stick to the bridleways now for a simple easy roll on the moors when we’re not riding the usual loamy forest trails 😀👊🏽

Me and a friend went up to Chew weekend just gone via the road you came down at the end. You made a good decision to cut it left and go around the reser rather than carrying on like we did. Disaster of a ride, raining most the day and it's already boggy and slippy as you saw. By the time we got to Laddow rocks to drop down the sketchy bit to Crowden, all energy and confidence was zapped so we spent most the time walking with the bikes. One for summer that I think! If you go that away again, on the road going down to Dovestone where you stop at the metal gate maybe 3/4 of the way down, you can take the path to the left (there's a little bridge you'll see). Follow this and you'll end up in a little forestry area. Some nice little trails in there.

@@themootonmaneuver Yeah can definitely drain you. Will look out for that path to the forest if I ever do the ride again 😂. I'm thinking of looking at that Laddow rocks to Cowden as I like a route nearby Cowden up past St.James Church where mountain rescue do training sessions etc 👍
