Epic Arctic Road Trip Begins! How the 2022 Toyota Tundra TRD Pro Compares to the TRD Off-Road

We begin our trip from #TacomaToTundra, starting in the Pacific Northwest of the US and heading straight north to the Arctic Ocean in Tuktoyaktuk, NWT.
We are taking two Toyota Tundras, a TRD Pro and a TRD Off-Road, and we wanted to go through all the details on these trucks so you can see how they compare. The Tundra TRD Pro is hybrid only, while the TRD Off-Road packs a twin-turbo V6. Learn all the differences between these Tundras here.

The chrome highlights the lines of the front end, which I still have problems looking at. IMO, the front end of the redesigned Sequoia is much better looking. I hope the Tundra design evolves in that direction.

For the money I’d go with the SR5 off road package. I don’t really need special badging or electric assist. The price diff makes up for any MPG advantage. They both look nice but still like previous look better.

That is what I got...TRD OFF ROAD. I prefer the V8. Not sure turbos will last the long haul.

Personally, the drop in storage on the TRD Pro was where it lost me. The pro grill and some of the additional styling is cool, I really like the fox shocks and TRD Pro wheels. But the Bilstein are good too, then I can just buy the pro wheels. As far as other styling differences, not a big deal, or easily changed as well. But I use all of my interior storage.

Most interested in fuel economy, comfort, and towing differences. Do you really need the hybrid? Will it matter for long trips? Love that you are doing this for us. Have a great trip!

I appreciate the amount of effort that goes into these trips. Someone had to get the trailer wrapped, round up gear, tires, food and much more. There was probably hours of communication between sponsors, vendors and Toyota.

Please observe the front radar sensor, it gives warning and/or stops working when it’s covered by ice or mud. How to solve this problem? Best wishes guys and thanks for doing this.

I have that on my 20. Toyota dropped the ball. The logo should be heated and cleaned. If there is frost on the logo, the adaptive cruise doesn't work. I never use it...I just go with CV cruise.

.3 difference in ground clearance? Best guess is the weight difference - battery plus electric motor. More weight, more spring compression.

Would like to see what you guys think of the lighting, exterior AND interior at night of course. Headlights, LED Bar and DRL - exterior and the interior lighting visibility and around the truck. For me, I like the SR5 and throw all the chrome at me you want too. Got no problem with chrome.

I like the SR5 better mostly due to the longer bed. Trucks with really short beds still look goofy to me.

Double cab with standard bed is the happy medium there and what I typically buy. Unfortunately, many manufactures don't offer all of their trim levels in double cab/standard bed configuration; only crew cab and mini shortbeds.

From a styling perspective the TRD Pro has it in spades over the SR5 TRD Offroad. For my money I'd probably go SR5 TRD Offroad and have that disgusting chrome colour matched (seriously Toyota that should be a factory option). I don't need a screen that big in the centre stack and I'd rather spend the price difference on tires, suspension of my choosing etc.

I'm sure the TRD Pro rides great but wow does it fall short compared to the competition in every way but power. 9" of ground clearance for your most expensive off-road truck is hard to accept. No recovery hooks? No front locker or LSD? What's the approach angle with that chin? Just feels half baked. Nice shocks and not a whole lot else.

@@vincesimeone6862 Don't be affraid by Ford. It is my third one. The 2015 was an ecoboost. Run great. But my 2021 is a 5.0l. Amazing sound. And the torque is very impressive. As good as the first version of the 3.5 ecoboost. Got 400 HP and 410 pound/feet. The first eco was 365 HP and 420 pound/feet. Efficiency is equal.
