Love the videos, Max. Epic ATC Confusion is not what I would have called it though. More like Epic ATC Workload! And she handled it like a champion! It's awesome hearing her work everyone around that wind and weather! All of us enthusiasts are used to hearing standard coms. It's pretty cool hearing such a dynamic situation unfold!

I was the first controller that worked you. While I would not categorize that day as “epic confusion”, it certainly was a little chaotic. What you don’t hear on the frequency is all of the talking controllers are doing to our supervisors and traffic management and our tower to try to find the best course of action to get all the arrivals down. Meanwhile, we keep getting more and more airplanes from the center. So we just have to do what we can to keep everything safe and orderly. Cool video and glad we could help get you guys to your destination safely.
@CitationMax6 жыл бұрын
KZbin titles tend to be exaggerated to add a bit of dramatic flair. I personally think the controllers did a fantastic job with the tools and information available, however it is certainly notable that we had four runway changes and a few moments where we didn't exactly know what our next moves were. I'm in no way criticizing the service received; my goal was to put together an interesting video that showcases some of the struggles, both in the air and on the ground, that everyone in this field sees.
@littleone605406 жыл бұрын
cirrusmax grab a headset. The wind was constantly shifting and gusting over 10knots. We were being overfed by the center also. I can’t control the wind. Only roll with the punches as it happens. I don’t have time to keep telling everyone everything that was happening every second behind the scenes. When I had the chance to update each aircraft I did. Managing the frequency is part of it when you have several airplanes. You’re straight up disrespecting the job we do each and every day under sometimes horrible conditions and short staffing. We have the safest airspace in the world because of our Controllers.
@brendenmock44936 жыл бұрын
A bit ridiculous to be this worked up over a KZbin title dont you think? This whole video is nothing but a flight, And ATC coms. There are no voice over attacking you personally there's no description stating how dissatisfied he is with what happened. So whats the problem? Put yourself in his shoes as someone in airspace being told they dont know what to do with you. Not something someone usually wants to hear when entrusting them with there life, its not a stretch, might wanna step back and realize you are over analyzing a simple video.
@EmperorCrzyDmnd6 жыл бұрын
where in the video was he disrespecting the controllers? i don't remember hearing anything but professionalism on both sides.
@flightsaitek40876 жыл бұрын
Did you watch the video? I mean even if it was stressful for him, but he did not disrespect you or the job that you do or anyone in your profession. Honestly I have talked with Max a bit about this trip, he did not have a negative word about this LAS arrival. I can get if you think that the title is misleading and that is the source of the issue. I think if you watched the content you would see the title was a bit exaggerated as Max stated.

Nice video guys! Lot's of fun to watch . Been flying in and out LAS for 20 years, five days a week. At the 16:00 minute mark you are over the air cargo ramp and I don't see my airplane in it's parking spot. What day and time was this video shot? I've been in the same runway changes so many times. Myself and our other pilots just take any runway they offer and get right in. Your right, I've raced thunderstorms right to the end of the runway.

Action-packed, good flight! While ATC was deciding the best course of action for arrivals by spinning you around, did you consider cancelling IFR and dropping in VFR with a Bravo clearance since you were in VMC with the field in sight? It could've potentially shortened the ride in.
@nooneno126 жыл бұрын
Bad idea to drop IFR to "maybe" get in faster under VFR... you may even get in later than staying IFR with the weather around the fields, best to not try to rush around IFR when its working well for you, and stay IFR even if in VMC... having to get back into IFR if needed could be a future issue and best to avoid. Pic did a good job staying ahead with good SA. Good one to share though I wouldn't call it "Epic" - and it seemed to me ATC was doing very well and not confused at all - a good time to switch is when a VFR approach would help avoid weather, there it would be best to ask for a contact appch, if called for.
@littleone605406 жыл бұрын
He wouldn’t have received a Bravo clearance when it’s that busy and complex with two configuration changes.

I must say that is a AWESOME plane! It's the plane with the parachute after all! :) By far the best general aviation seller for a LONG time. Def WAY different the the old Cessna that I flew when I was a kid. My first flight was when I was 6, my father was a RF antenna engineer which worked for Boeing, so I was surrounded by this stuff since I was very young. My crazy uncle let me fly when I was only 7! lol Definitely a LOT of fun since he's crazy enough to let me bank, climb and descend, and control the throttle all while being VERY close to the ground (around 3000-3500ft)! Then again he'd white water raft on uncharted waters which is SUPER dangerous and he did get close to dying more then a couple times including once when he was pressed underwater by the current for 5 MINUTES! We also got to try out Microsoft fight simulator with the very first rumble joystick around a year before release of either since we had friends who worked for Microsoft. Plus going to the Air museum and going in their dog fighting simulator that rolled itself. ALL our friends would be screaming their heads off while my brother and I would be sitting there saying "this is AWESOME" and "cool".

There is a video on KZbin with a Cirrus trying to land at Houston Hobby. Sadly it went down in a parking lot, I think due to fuel starvation. The lady flying the thing kept getting pulled off her landing pattern to allow WN 737's to pass her. Wind was an issue also. If you get a chance to see it, I'd love to hear your summary of the incident. ATC was in part responsive for the incident. No parachute was engaged nor was there a fire leading me to surmise fuel starvation
@CitationMax6 жыл бұрын
Bobby Paluga yea I’ve done a lot of reading on it and definitely a very sad and unfortunate situation. I think it was a combination of over pilot saturation the weather winds etc being confused by ATC instructions all of that I think sadly combined to the incident which is very sad. But the parachute is fantastic and such a great safety tool! Happy New Year!

Just for grins...this coming from a Vegas local. Traffic into/outof LAS is always heavy. On this day you had some convective weather but nothing heavy. You appeared to be coming in from the North and wanted 19R. Nearly every day you can get clear air turbulence and shearing winds up and down the Vegas valley. The terrain around the valley also squeezes everyone in close. And so will often be landing with tail winds or worse. Always expect delays when you are a small aircraft there...the commercials back-up end to end pretty much around the clock. There are four runways at LAS and they use them all. The controller was not all that busy...you just got turned a lot mostly due to your distance from the airport and traffic.

Given that you can fly a pattern within a mile of the field and a short approach and the field is VFR, would it have helped to cancel IFR and dive bomb in?
@CitationMax6 жыл бұрын
Dennis Walsh hey! Thanks for watching. I think at the point I was at canceling IFR would of possibly given ATC to not allow me to land in LAS and the IFR systems is a lot easier and in my opinion treated better! But yes we can fly 150-2mil and keep a tight pattern if needed. Thanks for watching happy new year!
@LawJolla6 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the answer. Happy New Year and keep making them!
@jeffdo91956 жыл бұрын
Dennis Walsh with the wx around why should he cxl IFR?
@LawJolla6 жыл бұрын
In the southwest, thunderstorm (monsoon) season isn't for IFR flying in anything short of a Boeing -- most clouds are thunderstorms or ice. But the cloud deck is normally high with unlimited visibility underneath, as was the case here. Therefore, most GA pilots in the southwest summer will fly VFR. Cirrusmax's reason for IFR, as he stated, was ATC and airport activity, not the weather. (I bet that had he flown to, say, Henderson Executive, he would have gone VFR) My question related to whether going VFR would have eased the controller's burden by allowing him to operate out of sequence. But as he suggested, most controllers like GA aircraft under IFR at busy airports, even the "slow" ones, and cancelling IFR may have caused more confusion with ATC than help.
@CitationMax6 жыл бұрын
Dennis Walsh hey. No if I would of cancelled I don’t believe I would of been able to land at LAS also believe with the clouds and precipitation it would of been hard to maintain VFR. Always good stuff to think about tho
