Third time is the charm!! A fresh cup of coffee during the JRPG Weekly Update is truly one of my favorite random weekend rituals, so I appreciate the persistence! AND an Avatar game that might not suck?! What a start to the day! Cheers ☕️

As for Suikoden I would love to see all of them remastered and I do want to see a Suikoden 6, it would be nice to see former Suikoden alums being brought back for it too.

McCrapolis is definitely an apt description of a cyberpunk setting. I do remember a lot of discussion about El Shaddai back in the day. There were a lot of mixed opinions about it. I also had a lot less discretionary income back then, so I never picked it up. And I think I got the feeling that it was too much action and not enough RPG for my tastes. But there were definitely fans of it, and I'm sure they're happy to see it come back. It also has a sorta sequel called The Lost Child, which I have played. That game is a pretty basic Megami Tensei clone. Not bad, but certainly not the real deal. Like SMT, it has religion references running rampant. El Shaddai is after all an old term for the god of Abraham (the god worshiped by Jews, Christians, and Muslims), and Metatron is allegedly the most powerful of his angels. I was at first uninterested in an Avatar RPG, but the idea of being a brand new character in a time unexplored by the rest of the series is actually pretty interesting. As for Konami, they can try all they want to make another Suikoden, but I think the only people they had on staff who could pull it off already jumped ship to make Eiyuden Chronicles. But remasters of the PS2 games should be a no-brainer if the first remaster sells well enough.

I would love to see the rest of the Suikoden games on modern platforms, especially Suikoden V and Tactics, which have never seen any kind of rerelease, and maybe even the Japan-only Suikoden PSP game!

Well Derek if you haven't seen Avatar the Last Airbender I think you should it's a really great show.

That's what I've been hearing! You know, I used to skip on Avatar because it was "fake anime" the way I used to skip on indie RPGs because they weren't actually Japanese. Indies have taught me that the distinction is meaningless, if a game is good, it's good. And I'm sure Avatar TLA will prove the same thing, when I get around to watching it. :)

Hmm...I suppose if Rabbit and Bear Studios continue to do well with Eiyuden Chronicle, then perhaps Konami will also continue to put resources into the Suikoden franchise.... it's hard not to link the sudden "interest" in Suikoden to Eiyuden Chronicle's success.

Good question of the week. I see two sides. My youthful gamer opinion is remake them all and let's see a new one!! However, my adult business/pm side says Let's see how the remaster does and rate the market. Did might have shot themselves in a foot by multiple delays going on roughly 2 years if the remasters do come out next spring.

Ugh I hate to do this, but I don't know if I would want a new Suikoden game and what led me to that was actually Eiyuden Chronicles. I didn't hate the game, but it also didn't really ignite anything in me either haha. I felt like instead of improving on any systems from the suikoden series it just felt like more of the same and in a lot of cases worse than some of the earlier suikoden games. If the actual creators of the series can't make a better suikoden game, it worries me that Konami of all people will try. I still hope the creators give it another try and hopefully innovate/improve some the systems a bit. I also wouldn't mind remasters of all the games, but if you ask me some of them like 3 and 4 could use a full on remake. 3 was just kind a klunky mess through and through with every detail of it. While 4 needs to find a way to make being on a boat more interesting if thats even possible lol. I liked things of both games, but they need some work.

I'd say no new Suikoden until they remaster at least Suikoden III... I worry they'll bungle Suikoden VI and the IP will go dormant again... I'd rather get 3 before they take the risk.
@SuperDerek2 ай бұрын
Honestly, I think Suikoden III would benefit the _most_ from a remake. There was a lot of potential, but the transition to 3D was not kind.

The Is It Wrong to Pick Up Girls in a Dungeon anime is superb. Well, seasons 1 and 4 are. The 2nd and 3rd are not as good, but still not bad. The title was originally going to be something else, but it was changed to attract more of an audience. Not sure if they succeeded. That sad, the game looks like kinda standard generic anime 2D action-platformer-RPG far. If you like anime, I highly recommend watching it. With how much western and Japanese devs are concerned into implementing DEI into their games I have no faith in the Avatar one being any good. Doesn't help that the creators of Korra are also woke AF. And writing's a pretty big issue as well these days. I have no faith in it being anywhere near as good as the original animated TV show. The only avatar-related things that has been somewhere close in terms of how well it's written has been the sequel comics that have never been animated (though I heard it is in the works).

El Shaddai, combat, artstyle, and story are great. It's just super linear and very short. There is a indirect sequel of it called "The Lost Child" shin megami tensei-like dungeon crawler RPG in modern day. That might be more your style.
