Bravo, Once again the Glasgow Cyclist with another superb video. Lots of great info and beautiful scenery. Foot note: my Father was a paratrooper involved in Operation Market Garden. Keep her Lit

Wonder how it would compare cost wise of renting the bikes instead of flying them over. I heard you mention those brompton stations where one can rent for £5 a day although with all the punctures it would still require maintenance.

Those punctures are definitely a fault with the bikes wheel rims. We hired e-bikes when in Amsterdam 2019 and it was £60 each for three days. We are probably going to get the Eurostar next year but still planning the journey. Ferry is also an option.

I suppose for someone not used to decent infrastructure it is unlikely to realise it is everywhere. At the same time for me, living away major population centers, there is a very big difference... You see, budgeting hinges on population, not area. And that means Rotterdam, Amsterdam, Utrecht are very good, not so much the norm in other provinces where areas are larger, but budgeting wise way, way smaller. That means lots of crap situation endure, only to be put on the back burner when some politicians decide to take the money, and run and petitions a new bridge, or some other cosmetic upgrade and take the from normal maintenance sources. Time and again that happens... So stay on the advertised infrastructure, those built with EU money are the best. The rest in the boondocks are so-so at best.

I live in a small town, outside the randstad, and I don't know where this interpretation comes from. I've cycled a lot all my life, and still do, but not the long distances anymore. The worst places, cycling infrastructure wise, I've always found in the big cities. The Hague used to be really bad, but has improved a lot by now. If you think the infrastructure is bad now, you wouldn't have survived in the 1980's, as there was very little cycling infrastructure at all. I'm still faster in the neighboring city and towns on my bike, than I would be in a car or public transport, and can't think of any unsafe situation. The only reason to use a car these days, is when I have to transport something I can't conveniently transport on my bicycle. I guess some people are never content. By the way, cycling infrastructure costs still a very small part of the costs of car infrastructure, especially in maintenance costs, and many municipalities have already understood that.

Thats incorrect, the best cycle infrastructure is actually found in rural areas
