The two taps aren’t for extra locking they are to shut off flow. Next time you want to prime turn the inlet side tap off, this way you are only filling the tube and not the whole canister. You only need to fill the inlet hose with water. Once hose is full turn the tap back on and this start the flow to fill the canister. Once the canister is full turn the pump on. Of course you will need to top off your tank water level.

I got the sun sun 704b after watching your videos about a year ago. It is everything you said it was. It is quite and effective. Great little budget filter! I have a 75 gallon tank with a 7.5 inch female turtle. I only have the one filter and my tank is crystal clear. I did add extra filter pads and ceramic rings to my canister though. Yes, the priming is horrible and I hate when it is time to break down the filter to clean it, but that is what I consider a minor issue. The priming looks... slightly better on this one??? Not enough of a difference for me to upgrade now but will keep this in mind should the need for a new filter come about. Anyone here looking for a filter recommendation, if LLYT gives it a good review, it is a good product! As always, great content. :)

Thanks so much! Glad the 704b is working out for you, I had an easier time priming that one than the HW3000 especially after a cleaning, so no real upgrade there, just more powerful!

I think I forgot to use your product link to purchase this through Amazon but the one I received actually came with three additional media filters (ceramic, charcoal, and bioballs)! I was surprised. I had already bought individual packs of ceramic media but it was a nice touch.

If you do have a filter that needs priming with a button. The easiest way is to fill the filter itself with water first put the lid on, hook everything up, and then use your garden hose on Jette to push water through the filter in all the way out the other side. You only need to do it for a few seconds and the whole system is prime instantly.

Great video! What is the purpose of the skimmer? Never seen that configuration. Going from a Marineland C360 to this on a 90gal. That is a good filter but not cutting it with 20 cichlids.
@LongLiveYourTurtleАй бұрын
The skimmer helps remove proteins that sit at the surface of the water, not really necessary for a turtle tank as it is beneficial for salt water enclosures.

Hi Just wanted to let you know that wood cave That you have in your aquarium.That cave is not meant to be put in water like that.I know believe me I had one in my aquarium After three years I noticed there was slime all over the cave and my tank started getting foggy And the slime was all over my water.I took it out and I threw it away then I called Petsmart And told them what happened they told me that that cave is not meant to be put in aquarium with water it's only meant for Snakes geico Lizards That are in aquarium without water. Amazon has caves that it will be safe for our turtles and fishes.

I need some help. 😰 I have three red-eared slider turtles. The largest one measures 4 inches in length, while the other two are each 3 inches long. I just bought a 40-gallon tank and also purchased the HW3000 filter. My questions are: How often should I clean the tank, considering I have sand as a substrate, and how often should I clean the filter? I hope you can help me!
@LongLiveYourTurtleАй бұрын
With three turtles you will be dealing with a good amount of biol-oad. All tanks are different though and I usually stick to a rule of thumb and then monitor the tank to see if I need to tweak it. I start with ~%50 water changes every two weeks to remove nitrate buildup and general dirtiness of the water. I clean the filter once a month at first and then once I know if the sponges/filter media are getting clogged up I will adjust to more frequently or less frequently. The ONLY goal is to keep healthy water parameters, so you are just trying to consistently keep up with that. Hope that helps!
@koreyratering46626 ай бұрын
Ok for priming since the other models really suck to prime. I use a powerhead or mini pump to forces feed the unit (through the intake) till it pushes the air out and runs on its own. the other thing I have done was fill the filter up with water before closing the top. Hope this takes some frustration away from other users.

I love how informative your video is. Do you recommend using silicone grease around the rings? Is it ok to keep the ceramic media on the bottom and the filter floss and charcoal on top? Thanks.
@LongLiveYourTurtle5 ай бұрын
Thanks! You could use silicone to help longevity of the o-ring but I dont typically. I would put the filter floss on the bottom, bio media in the middle and charcoal on top if you want the tried and true aquarium filter cycle.

In another video I saw someone only open the output lever to fill the canister after they cleaned it and it fill the canister back. Perhaps that’s the reason for both levers on the manifold.

I'm curious if you think having any of the charcoal or the little black balls or anything else is worth it? Or just all the ceramic media?
@LongLiveYourTurtle5 ай бұрын
While the charcoal works to an extent, the gain is not worth the effort as you need to replace it periodically. The bio balls are ok but ceramic rings are just as good/better for a filter like this where space is limited.

If the UV is placed along the input, wouldn't there be no bacteria to enter the filter and populate the bio media within?
@LongLiveYourTurtle5 ай бұрын
The bacteria grows on the bio media not in the water column. The trays block the UV from hitting the biological media.
@garyhwk15 ай бұрын
@@LongLiveYourTurtle i agree however if i pour seachem stability directly into my tank, the bacteria in the water column would have to travel into the inlet pipe before reaching the bio media in the canister. My fear is that the bacteria would be depleted by the uv bulb as it enters the canister before reaching the biosenser within. it would make more sense to me if the uv bulb was placed just before the outlet pipe. i actually just received my hw3000 but am hesistant to turn on the uv bulb. i hope i make sense
@TroySchuler4 ай бұрын
@@garyhwk1some people don’t use the bulb for the reasoning that it can break down the plastic over time. Not sure if it’s true, but I’ve heard it on numerous reviews.
@garyhwk14 ай бұрын
@TroySchuler it's true. So after the uv has served it's initial purpose of say removing algae, you could switched it on for 4-6 hourly a day instead of 24hrs to prolong the plastic. The plastic will degrade over time with exposure to uv
