Hi Alex - your tail wheel cable/springs looks loose at 9:30 and 10.30. Also I suggest going for a helmet before chute. (Then get the chute:-). Gap seals brought the minimum landing speed down to ~34mph from about 41mph on our Model 2 - I was surprised by the effect. Owen

3:42 it's funny, I've never been sold on the utility of those parachute systems. But when you are purposely flying into places where decent Landing spots are going to be rare and difficult even with power the chute actually seems like it would be something to have. I've always felt that for your typical general aviation or light sport pilot you're more likely to fly the plane down without damage than drift randomly and uncontrolled to a safe place under a chute.
@AlexDiSessa6 жыл бұрын
Lot's to talk about that. I can show so much data Cirrus aircraft has showing any vertical descent under canopy is better than a controlled forward motion into a tree, terrain or whatever you thought you cold deviate from.
@DrewLSsix6 жыл бұрын
@@AlexDiSessa well, I take data from salesmen with salt, but I agree completely on common sense grounds. Hitting a tree or any such thing in a plane at any significant velocity is not a good thing at all. But taking a reasonable shot at an open field may be better than popping the chute and hoping you dont land on some lines or sink the plane in a lake. Other than the cost I have no issue with having one on board, but I still think practicing dead stick is wise.
@AlexDiSessa6 жыл бұрын
DrewLSsix No data from sales man. I've been involved with Cirrus and flying them for over 10 years. The data is explicit and free from anyone that wants to see it. This comes from FAA, Cirrus and investigations. Not trying to debate. Yes, definitely will put it down as a first option.Train for that first. But sometimes putting down is not an option at all.
@bartgoins17826 жыл бұрын
Flying over the mountains, you're not going to find many flat places to attempt to land, so the BRS is not a bad idea. They do need some altitude to deploy, so "low and slow" is not the best environment for them.
@DrewLSsix6 жыл бұрын
Bart Goins The numbers just don’t make them a really appealing option. Most accidents are on landing or takeoff. Of if you do bush flying you take on more risks that negate the chute a lot. A loss of engine at altitude suitable for the chute to be used is also suitable for a controlled forced landing. The type of failure that would cause you to lose control at that altitude would also probably make the chute less than reliable. As for engine outs that do lead to crashes from altitude most of those are from poor pilot choices. Not selecting the nearest spot in favor of something nicer further away. I would rather encourage good pilotage and sharp decision making than offer an easy button solution that then takes any control from the pilot. I’m not saying I would never want or need a chute, there are cases where one could be absolutely invaluable, like a power out in a heavily wooded area with no apparent places to land. In that case dropping into the trees vertically is far better than gliding into them at whatever your stall speed is. Even crazy slow stall speeds can kill you if you hit a tree top going that “slow”. But back to pilotage I would still rather encourage better decisions than offer easy outs, people talk about how badly it would be to fly over open water in a small plane.... why are the not as concerned about wooded areas? Over water you can pack appropriately and wait for rescue. You might flip your plane on landing but survival is not really in doubt with preparation. But the same situation over dense woods can deny you even the chance to survive contact let alone survive until rescue comes. Just thoughts though.

@kenstephens29556 жыл бұрын
Can I suggest you work on your bush pilot skills before adding a BRS? Once you are good at flying a slow, stabilised approach you won't have enough energy in the plane to kill you even if the plane is destroyed.
@kenstephens29556 жыл бұрын
That way you can choose your touchdown point rather than being at the mercy of the chute
