Thank you WA for posting these videos, Berlin 2009 will always be my favourite world champs, Jamaica really showed up here

I used to think Melaine must have been off her meds to give up this event after having it in the palm of her hands for so long. She could have and likely would have broken that world record. But then I watched her interview with (Trishanna Gowan?) and that interview made me understand. If something is not making you happy, or straight up bringing you to depression, then eventually the lack of passion starts to show in your performances even if you keep at it anyway. She made a choice and she's at peace with it, so I'm just gonna enjoy these years when she was the standard AND salute her for knowing herself best.

Most athletes who become global champions in an event they don’t love are also champions in their favourite event. That wasn’t the case with Melanie Walker. 🤔. She never did well elsewhere
@iananang52922 жыл бұрын
But how can something that you are very good at not make you happy and give you depression? Because she was being paid well and had a lot of sponsorship as the Olympic and World Champion. I remember her coach telling her that she will not be as good in the sprint hurdles and she still decided to switch. And we can see how it turned out now. Hmmm what a shame. A very sad situation

@@iananang5292 clearly you don’t understand. She knows herself best. That’s why she have chosen her peace of mind. It’s not about being good it was about her happiness and peace of mind.

To put this in perspective, McLaughlin ran 52.1 in the semi-final this year in Oregon. Sydney has really taken this event to the next level.

They now have engineered spikes now, that wasn't available back then

@@taiekehaughton8290You must be kidding, because Sydney has not just had a change of spikes, she’s taken the record down 2s. That’s special talent.

It's a shame that Melaine didn't just stick with the 400 hurdles, if she had she wouldn't have fade away the way she did, the sprint hurdles just wasn't working out for her
@kyngnick87232 жыл бұрын
Yes for real, so so true😭. But let's celebrate what she has accomplished in her career tho it was short. She had the Olympics record,World Championship record, won an Olympic title and a world title and was the second fastest all time at one point. Some people can only dream to do what she did.
@trackuniverse91212 жыл бұрын
@@kyngnick8723 yeah but she probably would have won more titles if she had stick with her pet even, she still accomplished a lot in her short time tho

@@trackuniverse9121 Most definitely, she probably would Have broken the world record before Sydney. Melanie could have been the GOAT of the 400m hurdles (before Dalilah and Sydney came along).

Maybe it is the lack of support for the sprint that made her faint.

She ended up switching discipline/events but it didn't work out in her favour also if I'm not mistaken think she got injured at some point. She's actually still completing but in the 100m hurdles. She competed during the most recent track season.
@jordanjordannis22582 жыл бұрын
She didn't like this event. Made a deal with her coach to do it for a few seasons then switch to the sprint hurdles and she never was granted the switch apparently. Anyway, she went solo as a sprint hurdler and that was the end of that
