I heard that "I won't do it again" in a movie once. It was about Jeffrey Dahmer. You can't say "we won't snatch games up like Metro Exodus" AFTER YOU ALREADY DID IT. If trust worked that way, I would rob people but leave a note saying "don't worry, this was a one time thing" so they will let me off the hook!

What a bunch of BS. Forced and artificial monopoly is not competition; it is the death of it. Only a complete idiot would fall for this “we are trying to make the industry a better place and pass the savings to the gamers”. This “savings” won’t result in lower prices, but in higher profits. And once “Epic” has its monopoly, I bet that they won’t keep this “generous” system (and that’s when they will stop). Their general practices (towards their competition, their users, gamers in general and even towards data protection laws) show that they are not an ethical company and I won’t be fooled by this supposed good intentions speech of “we know what is best for you”. If they were at least ethical, even without good intentions, they would fight Steam with better prices and features, not artificial barriers built with bribes.

Are you actually using "monopoly" as an argument against epic here. i love steam but in this case its a monopoly and people hate on any competitor to it because its an inconvenience. Epic is competing with steam by paying more to developers so that steam has to do the same to keep up, this results in better games as more money is made from those games by the developers. What have they done that is unethical?

Just you know, a small detal - Discord store offers 90/10 split, which is even better than Epic. And yet we don't see publishers rushing over there for a better split, or Epic helping their brothers who "better the industry". Because it has always been about screwing Steam over for standing alongside consumers in many situations, like paid mods fiasco for one. Epic brings us to the future publishers want, because they will be able to screw us over more.

@@raptorjesus3894 The comparison is pretty ridiculous.. in the first place because Steam didn't even get to compete, and secondly that Last light came out in 2013.. "They don't see the hardship of making a payroll and seeing the store suck out 30% of the revenue from it. Enabling larger profits via no manufacturing of discs/carts, boxes, having to ship an store them. -Publishers stop including manuals. -Season passes. -More and more DLC and less unlockable stuff in games. -Microtransactions and lootboxes in full priced games. (Edit to add this one)-Publishers creating their own digital platforms and raking in 100% of the profits. All of which are making record profits while the publishers don't pay taxes because of loopholes they have made in the law. Wow, they're making a lot of money! So, when do we get these 'savings'? Wait, we don't. Publishers just keep taking away. Money doesn't trickle down, savings are never passed on. It never, works, that, way. The publishers rake in more to impress investors and the only thing that changes is the customers get less in the product that they pay more for via more monetization. Developers aren't going to see any more of the profits either, it's going to go straight to the publisher's offshore accounts and the devs are going to be left doing the usual awful crunch time and laid off promptly after. Epic isn't doing devs, or customers any favors. Epic's launcher recently been found to be datamining user's PCs and steam accounts isn't helping this argument either.

Yep, they almost NEVER pass on the savings or the increased profits to the gamer (plus they still haven't done proper regional pricing for those outside of US either so they are literally paying more than usual.) History has clearly showed that. It's silly for them to try to appeal to these theoretical ideals that never pan out in reality. It doesn't guarantee better games, or more games, or less buggy games, or cheaper games, etc. Pro-developer doesn't necessarily always translate out to also being pro-consumer. Often times it's sadly the opposite.
@Snotnarok

@@DeathBringer769 The thing is I'd be more for it if it DID benefit the developer, but like I said and you probably wager, this only benefits the publisher. @Emergeo2 I will admit I have a slight bias for Steam due to how long it has been around, but I don't think Epic is a good choice overall. Sure, Steam charges a pretty hefty premium to publish games for them, which I personally don't think is fair at the level it's at. I could easily host my game for free on Google if I was an indie dev, and only for a few bucks a month for larger AAA titles. However, the problem with Epic is that they engage in anti-consumer behavior. While you could argue that "they're only making the game exclusive for a while, unlike sony", which is true, it is a pain to have to choose to buy at a certain store because it's only available there. This anti-consumer mindset is not something I want to promote so I would not buy from there to reduce the demand. To answer your question, yes, Epic does probably provide a better result for developers, but without the information of how much goes to developers vs publishers, I can't say for sure which store is better - Steam or Epic.

So the fuck what, why is it such a big deal? Is it because it was originally going to be on steam and they all of a sudden changed their mind? That is fair enough and is a shitty move...but to dwell on a decision made by those who have the legal rights to the IP and wherever they choose seems to be making a mountain out of a mole hill. I mean heck just purchase a physical copy that will teach em' and you will be able to enjoy a game (I'm assuming because you're so upset by this) that you wanted to play.

Until Epic can confirm these I can not and will not use a service that breaks in the laws designed to protect consumers from greedy corperations, that believe they only need to partially follow the laws within their home countries.

It is noteworthy that the legal entity who LEGALLY owns the rights to the IP can sell it wherever they so choose. It's called business, clearly if you don't want the game due to this terrible mis justice (aka inconvenience) you won't buy it and you will have hurt both EPIC and 4A Silver where it counts as is the right of any consumer. I will wait till the game is dirt cheap, below 20 bucks maybe. If you boycott epic store then buy the game in a years time at full price your an idiot... @violentpursuit
@violentpursuit 5 жыл бұрын
@@Crushin777 My comparison isn't between the Witcher and Exodus. It's showing a fair comparison between one sequel in a franchise and the next, which Epic apparently doesn't understand, or they do and they just want to play some numbers sleight of hand to please investors. (Yes i know it's not publicly traded, but Tencent has investors). Those numbers show what is possible when you're talking about sales figures (just in the first year) from sequel to sequel. And obviously Witcher 2 was a success for CDPR because from that they were actually able to get the resources needed to create TW3. That is why 2.5 times it's predecessor isn't impressive at all. The number would have been exponentially higher if it weren't for the exclusivity deal driving boycotts of the game till it's on Steam and piracy
@primodragoneitaliano
@primodragoneitaliano 5 жыл бұрын
@@violentpursuit This. Also a Redditor pointed out that since Epic's CEO loves numbers that put the company in good light, then why did he just say that the game sold "2.5 times more" than the previous installment of the series and not given the proper sale numbers ? This makes me think (and not just me actually) that the sales of Exodus weren't super great. It didn't necessarily faceplant but it didn't become the insanely successful, multimillion copies selling product that Epic promised, and that's despite one helluva larger marketing plan.

@Ryan Bushell A lot of the exclusives on console are 1st party games. The 3rd party games that go exclusive aren't being paid off by the platform host. If you recall the one Tomb Raider game did that on Microsoft's behalf and that got the same general backlash EGS is for the same shenanigans. As for the spyware thing, I would say poking around in unrelated folders on your HDD/SSD spying wouldn't you. I can find no "debunking" as it were but the Epic CEO claiming its false. In my perusing I have found people talking about the spyware issue all the way back in December well before this latest round of accusations came to light.
@user-yh5ls8hk5y
@user-yh5ls8hk5y 5 жыл бұрын
@Ryan Bushell And Xbox vs Ps4 is good... how? It's the most anti-consumer practice I can think of off the top of my head. It forces the consumer to choose based off who has the most money to throw around, not who creates the better prodcut. It also forces us to use inferior products to get games that we should be able to get on any platform we choose. "If you want to win you have to have a reason for people to use their product." Yes. And that's why Steam and GOG have won all this time by fighting over who can make the better launcher. If you think the Epic store can hold a candle to either of those, you have to be delusional. It lacks the features both of those had, was roasted over a flame, and struggled at first. It has only seen any success by buying exclusives. This is the same market where a good chunk of the consumer wants a better launcher than steam, too. "The spyware story has been debunked as complete BS" The only thing I've seen debunking the spyware was a claim from Epic that makes no sense at all and actually brings up more questions (Why would they be using Steam data in Fortnite?) "Also EPIC are not forcing developers into exclusivity, they make that choice themselves. " First off, the developers aren't. The producers are. Two very different groups. Second off, it doesn't matter that they aren't forcing them. They offering to buy the exclusives, and non of the games would be exclusives if they hadn't.
