I really do enjoy your angling adventures Drew, and one of the things I really enjoy about your videos is you don't talk too much and have no banjo music in the background. Please don't change your format-- BobA

Another brilliant video, sight fishing is what we dream about and what an amazing place to fish. Really enjoying your videos, no music just a great fishing video. Need videos like this now, we are in full lockdown in the UK not even allowed to fish.

Wow that looks like a lot of fun! Crazy how shallow some of the fish are holding - I'm assuming you couldn't even get in that kind of water with a pedal drive kayak.
@LooknFishy4 жыл бұрын
Yea, that skinny water is super fun! A pedal drive would have worked most places. The ones that fold up would work on the flats...I've used a coosa fd in the past and sometimes wish I still had a pedal drive. I always want one when I'm heading out and returning from the launch and mostly in the deeper canals. The trade was pushing it around once I got to a flat. The pedal drive kayaks are bigger and don't push well. Definitely still trying to find that perfect balance between covering water and moving on a flat!
@grahamstewart79804 жыл бұрын
@@LooknFishy I’ve had those thoughts too. I’ve also considered getting a pedal kayak, pulling the drive and using a paddle on the flats. The pedal drives seem like they could be problematic in shallow water. Love your redfish videos! Grand Isle is a special place.
@LooknFishy4 жыл бұрын
@@grahamstewart7980 well if you figure out the balance please let me know, I'll do the same!

Enjoyed the video. I fish for reds on Gulf Coast of Texas; a question that I have is where and what do you do with your fly while you are paddling? I am watching all your redfish videos and will switch to Colorado fishing for next summer. Thanks.

I either leave it in the water with about a rod length of line out or place in near my foot and throw it out when I transition from paddle to rod!
@jarrodshields20784 жыл бұрын
Great video! What weight rod were you using for those hogs? 9 weight maybe? And what kind of patterns were they taking? Shrimp, bait fish, etc? Thanks!
@LooknFishy4 жыл бұрын
Mostly a 9ft 8wt and unweighted shrimp and red fish crack...but kwans and crabs all work. Went to weighted flies when I found drops. Keep a 9wt as my back up.

I’ve been wanting to do this exact kind of trip, but I’m not sure what I need to know about tides, where it’s safe to paddle. Would you mind sharing some tips?
@LooknFishy4 жыл бұрын
The tides in LA are not anything to really worry about unless you're near an inlet...like bridgeside marina in Grand Isle. They can get strong there but mostly in the marsh, the worry is getting stuck which isn't really a worry in a kayak. But generally speaking, the swings are 1 to 1.5 feet...winter with north winds can drain the marsh. But the rest of the year the tides just are a good way of targeting areas fish will hang out. The further from the coast hardly any impact on tides...areas I fish that are 20 miles in may only drop a few inches.... "Near the coast tides matter most". A good safe place to get a intro to sela redfishing is PAC kayak rental in Montegut, LA. It's the kayak fishing hub for sela. Definitely give them a look!
