100% agree with you. Went to the Nurburgring 24 hours a few years ago. Lovely country, fantastic people, great roads it’s a just brilliant place to go to.

In fairness the autobahns (near the big cities) can get very crowded at peak times. Delaye can be expected. Maybe fewer people use their cars in Germany because of its quality public transport which is affordable. For example this summer there's a travel pass costing Euros 49 which provides one month's unlimited travel by rail and buses (not mainline InterCity rail though) throughout Germany.
