The ABSOLUTE best Van Halen song in my opinion. I can listen to it over and over and then one more time and never get tired of it. Puts me back in a wonderful place. I love my life now but would be tempted to go back to the 80's if given the chance. It was an amazing time to be young, free and happy. This particular Van Halen song always makes me think of Saturday afternoons. It’s relaxed but has a driving beat, so it’s like the energy of a Saturday - different from the weekday grind, but not quite the mellow energy of a Sunday. It’s right in between, and it’s beautiful. Plus it’s very much an 80s tune, from 1988. All the pop culture of the 80s come to mind when I hear this.

The original Van Halen fans crapped all over Sammy because he wasn't DLR (as if it was Sammy's fault Dave left the band!). I get it -- no one likes to see their favorite band change. But the fact is that Van Halen's music was much hookier (and therefore better, in my view) with Sammy, and Sammy's vocals are vastly superior to Dave's.

Sammy is such an awesome singer, musician and front man. I swear, he always seems like the happiest, most blessed and fun, cool guy STILL. He was sort of overshadowed being after Dave and in the shadows of Eddie. He's always had one of the best rock voices and still does. The Red Rocker! VH really lucked out with Sammy as lead singer. This song is why I roll my eyes at anyone who says "Van Halen, not 'Van Hagar.'" Sammy's the better singer, the better songwriter, and is just as good a frontman, as far as showmanship. He's is in 70s, now, and he still sounds just like this. The song is probably my favorite of theirs: love the atmosphere of the intro, Sammy's vocals, and, you didn't mention it, but it's worth mentioning: Michael Anthony's backing vocals, which are clutch. Top it off, it's just catchy as hell. Great song, period.

I agree absolutely with everything you said. Dave, at his time, was a good "hypeman" and I can't take that from him.... but he would never get in the same galaxy as Sammy does on vocals, musicianship, song writing, showmanship etc. I will give EVH props for his talented playing, but the way he treated Sammy and Michael..... I have nothing else good to say. Talk about biting the hand that feeds you. You'd think he'd know better after seeing the downfall or lack of hits bands like Foreigner, Journey, Kool and the Gang, The Commodores, Alabama and their drummer Mark that everyone thought was a member since he went on stage to accept all those awards, on every album cover, video, etc...and others, who fired or lost their lead singer due to their egos

So awesome to see you guys getting into a band I’ve enjoyed since the late 70s. Great review! David and Sammy had their individual vocals and stage presence and they rocked it with VH.

Great suggestion. That song is funk, pop, soul, rock, ska, R&B, all rolled up into one.

A great power ballad by the mighty VH, from their 1988 album OU812. Phenomenal set, with this being a top 20 hit for them, and their second number one album, with Sammy Hagar at the vocals. Try their first single from this one, called Black and Blue. Awesome rock.

This song was #1 in April 1989 when I had senior prom. I remember slow dancing to it like it was yesterday. ...And,by the way, our prom theme was "Lost in Your Eyes"(Debbie Gibson)

They're just 2 different bands. With David they were rock and with Sammy they were pop. It's apples to oranges.

This was the first music video that Van Halen made with Sammy Hagar on lead vocals. They made no videos in support of “5150” when it was released in 1986. The video for Dreams was filmed by The Blue Angels, and the performance of Best of Both Worlds was from their Live Without a Net show from New Halen, CT.

Good tune. Never really got into Van Hagar, but this tune let us see Eddie keyboarding skills. He and Alex were training to be Concert Pianists til they heard early 60s music. That's why Eddie's son is named Wolfgang.
