Richard Kaye - I did the same thing in 2003. I wasn’t sure if it would last when I made my move. I decided try it for 6 months then evaluate the pros and cons and decide if I wanted to continue with living on the boat or back to land. It was a no brainer at the end of the 6 months. 16 years later I positively have no desire to live on land. Mine is the earlier model of the boat in the video. One thing mine has which most in this size range didn’t have in the 90’s is a washer / drier. That was a real selling point to me when looking. I didn’t want to deal with lauded mats. Hope you enjoy it as I have.

Why wait 10 years? We live on our 42 ft bluewater for part of the year
@distinguishedmariner89593 жыл бұрын
@@CissyandBud Haha, that number isn't arbitrary; its when we plan to move up to something in the 42/45 ft. range and "test" living on it full time to decide if it will be a complete shift or partial. Right now we spend a good bit of time on our 35" boat but its stored high and dry, no bottom paint, outdrives etc.

I lived aboard a small sailboat in San Diego for almost 2 years. I was on the road as a cross country truck driver and the switch seemed natural. Years later, a couple more years on a 36 foot houseboat. And now as I go into my mid 70s, I am searching for another boat. I think a 30 foot or so power cruiser. Size doesn't matter and now I have a lifelong income, and live within my means. My plan is to travel all the inland waterways til I blink out. :o)

The Radio came a few hours ago, I charged it a little while and took it out in the yard. I am a little over 3.5 miles from the marina in town. As soon as I walked out on the porch, I heard 2 guys talking out on the river. It was perfectly clear and even came in over the squelch I had set in. It's a Standard Horizon HX250S, nice but nothing fancy. I'm happy. :o)

Nice boat. I bet we are in the same marina as it looks familiar. I'll add my two tips on Liveaboard buying to your fans. Get a yacht with a full door. Bending and ducking everytime you go in and out gets old. Think about a typical night grilling out... How many times you go in and out of the doorway with food etc in your hands. Just get a yacht with a full size door. Also, liveaboard living is all about the marina. Choose a marina with nice facilities. Its a pain to deal with an on board holding tank. Most liveaboarders use the marina for poo and only pee in their yacht bathrooms. The pee doesn't hurt the environment. The poo does and it needs special treatment. (not to mention is a federal law to discharge poo within 3 miles of shore). So, you have to use a holding tank and have it pumped out once a week. Its a pain and just one more thing requiring maintenance. If the marina in this video is the one I'm thinking it is, the bathroom in this marina in Palm Coast is 1/4 mile walk each way. (apple watch 500 steps...) A marina with clean combination locked bathrooms that are close to your slip is a blessing. i.e. Conch House in St. Augustine.

Remember living on a boat means everything is always damp. Weather can be a huge problem. Cold weather is very uncomfortable. It's also hard to keep cool unless your not concerned with huge electric bills. Everything that needs maintenance is a specialty type trade and is very expensive. Very difficult to work on. Because of the tight quarters. Constant leaks both from the water your in and the rain. When a boat goes by your going to feel it and it's not always a gentle rocking. Storms can be infuriating. Deliveries of any kind are a hassel. Wind can also be a pain to deal with. Tiny food prep area, called a galley it's more like a service cart with water. Lots to overcome but don't let anyone tell you it's easy.

The sea rays look great but im wondering if the engines cost too much to run ? My ideal live aboard would be a40 .45 ft clipper only because they are more designed for the blue water motoring and they have a flybridge. And they are not power boat as such,id be happy cruising along at 10knts
@epicliveaboard82845 жыл бұрын
Hi, Kim: Thank you for your response and thank you for watching. I treat my Sea Ray as a trawler, I am normally cruising at about 8-10 knots and the Cummins engines only burn 5 gallons each at that speed. The Westerbeke generator burns less than 1 gallon an hour. This boat is very economical since the engines are 6 cylinder and only 335hp each. The higher the horsepower, generally, the more fuel consumption and the bigger hurry you are in the more it is going to cost you. So far, I have had the boat for 1 year and no problems at all. We had mechanics on the boat the other day for preventative maintenance and they believe everything is in order. We have scheduled for the heat exchangers to be removed, flushed and reinstalled later in the summer. Fingers crossed. Thank you again. Lead an incredible life!
