Levy, I largely blame you for what I have become. XD Six weeks ago, I absolutely hated playing chess! I did not know how to play properly...I did not even know how to set up the board correctly. My husband LOVES chess, so I decided to secretly teach myself how to play in order to become as good as I could so I could play him on his birthday and actually give him some sort of a challenge. Well, today is his birthday! We had our game earlier today. He is a very solid 1300, and I was winning by a lot for most of the game until I made two costly mistakes, then I resigned. It was so great to see his reaction to my plays. A couple of times he said, "Wow .....what?" After my resignation, I confessed to him this secret that I had been keeping for 6 weeks; reading chess books, playing online, playing people in person, and watching your videos pretty much every day. He said that I definitely played that game at a 1200 level. He is so excited to now have another opponent. Thank you so much for the awesome content that you put out. You helped ignite a passion in me for chess, and I plan on continuing to improve while giving you some sweet ad revenue in exchange for your golden knowledge.

I'm about 1,400 and don't know pants about any openings. Learning common themes and ideas is so nice from videos like this, Levy's opening knowledge is honestly great. Ding Liren / Magnus Carlsen needs to be the next Kasparov / Karpov rivalry. Ding is the only one that can play against that stockfish like gamestyle of Carlsen by playing incredible ideas himself (playing c5 and f4 to ruin the potential of his own pieces to make black lack of space / the rooks absurdely placed on the b file, like if I do that my rooks get trapped / and sacrificing the rook to break the forteress of Carlsen). That was like AlphaZero against Stockfish, the moves don't make any sense but they work.

As much as I love and appreciate these recaps, I have one request: try to avoid saying stuff like “this was magnus’ biggest advantage of the game” because it gives away the outcome (or at least narrows the possibilities). One of the reason i’ve grown to love recaps is the suspense and the fact I don’t know who is going to win each game. Thanks and much love Levy!
@ninjaplays4you8262 жыл бұрын
Gotham youre saying you dont like the reti for low rated players. But i think its one of the best for low rated players. Because almost everyone plays the ruy lopez on low levels. so if you play reti you can switch to play the kings indian attack and people dont know what to do. I just stay solid and wait till my opponents make mistakes and than i take advantage of that. I went from 1200 to 1400 in just 2 months because i switched to reti. I recommend people to start playing the reti! If anyone disagrees please tell me why. 😁
@elcrucius2 жыл бұрын
At 1400 youre already at the borderline of NOT being a lower rated player. Id say 1500 and up you can already play any classical opening you want because you understand the basic gameplans. Me personally, when i was under a 1000, i consistently lost inopenings like the reti just like levy said because i had basically one or two gameplans and when the opponent didn't go for that, I was super lost. Had to switch over to simpler stuff like the London and Italian with a simple game plan until I gained a bit more experience. However, even if one's lower rated, if they studied various reti opening gameplans and lots of games where the reti was played, im sure its a perfectly playable opening but still more difficult than something like the london for beginners.
