I like that the 38(t) is actually a Czech designed and produced tank that the Germans commandeered and used after they took over Czechoslovakia. It was a fun little tank to use in World of Tanks.

I would have skipped the 38 t and gone with PZ II to go with the 3 and 4. I'm building the PZ VI-E commonly known as the Tiger I. You may want to go with the simpler 38 t for painting first. You could get bogged down in all the choices in how to finish the Merkava.

I started with models when I was very young. There's probably 98% consensus in this comments section that model-making and brick-building Lego pieces are nearly parallel. I'm thrilled my time learning from people like Adam Savage and the Tested crew, This Old Tony, Xylia Foxlin, and so on has ultimately led me to this channel. That C-130 in the beginning, if it's 1/48 scale, looks like the one I built decades ago. As a Marine I painted it in Marine Corps camouflage. Also did an A-6 Intruder, AH-W Cobra in USMC colors. My pride and joy was a 1/35 M543A2C 5 ton 6x6 wrecker, of course it was done in Marine Corps 4 color camouflage, kinda like the full sized one I drove and had to paint prior to an inspection. Luckily I had access to a technical manual with the patterns in it.

Great pick, the 38t was originally a chech designed and manufacture. Germany captured a few hundred when it took over Chech, and kept producing them and a modified version. In addition, this tank was famously commanded by Edwin Rommel "The Ghost" when he invaded France, it is also one of very few tanks to invade Poland, and then park on the coast of France and look over the channel to Great Britain, and then later invaded Russia. Once the tank became obsolete, they kept making the chassis and turned it into low profile tank hunters, and mobile Anti Aircraft batteries and even Self Propelled guns. It has a massive history.

Panzer 38(t) was designed and built by the Skoda works in Czechoslovakia. The Germans took over the existing tanks of the Czech army and kept building them for a while. They called it the "38(t)" after the year they annexed Czechoslovakia (1938) and the "t" is for "Tschechien" which is the German name for Czechoslovakia.

The 38T was a Czechoslovakian tank. It was produced after Germany invaded Czechoslovakia because they had only inferior tanks at the time and saw the weaknesses when they invaded Poland. It was a fairly good tank in the early days of the war and was one of the tanks that Otto Carius crewed in the early days and was wounded in. He received a facial wound and the scaring can be clearly seen in later photos. Otto was one of the most decorated German tanks commanders of the war for those who do not know the name. He was on par with aces like Whittman and Knispel.

Well done, keep up the great work. FYI the Hetzer, a very formidable Tank Destroyer, was actually adapted using the Chassis of the Panzer 38(T) due directly to the 38T being so under powered. Also the 38T made up a large portion of the WWII Germany's Blitzkrieg; more so in the very beginning. It was considered a flaw once other nations started to produce better tanks than the 38T. Early on, it had it's place, but as time wore on it faded away much like how the bow and arrow were replaced by the gun. The 38T's chassis, however, did live on in the Hetzer and finished the War as a wonderful tank loved by its crews and hated by its enemies. Check out the Hetzer, I'm sure you'd like it just as much as it's very similar in size but the shape is a bit different as the Hetzer does not have a Turret...

I would recommend purchasing a new model and pre-painting the pieces before assembly. It's been a while since I've built anything tbh, but I used to soak all the pieces in warm water with a bit of dish soap and then thoroughly dry, then spray paint with primer first. Then I'd go through and pre-paint all the pieces per the instructions, usually trying to paint all pieces of like color at the same time. Once that is all done you can go back through and start the assembly and when that is complete, you can go back over and touch-up any visible areas that need it. Applying decals is next and always challenged me but still find it fun. After decals I'd spray the entire model over with a clear matte finish (at least for military vehicles) which really gives the overall model a nice look and texture, but also serves to protect said decals as well. After a few models of doing this and getting comfortable, you can start playing around with more realistic wear patterns, dirt, mud, foliage, camo, et cetera. You can get as detailed (or not) as you want! Good luck!

If you are really missing the playing with fire part, you can use heat to bend and crumple the fenders. Its a typical use damage seen on these -38(t) vehicle as they kicked up rocks and tree branches especially, wedging between tracks and fenders before the wood was chewed up. Look at operational photos. These vehicles had short lives! This tank chassis was used as the basis for bunch of other ersatz versions: a self-propelled assault gun, a recovery vehicle, and an end of war anti-tank gun that is my favorite (Hetzer) which Tamiya has made too. One chassis to bookend the wartime service of this tiny tank. Check out the kit when you are next shopping. Later versions have more and better finishes, including one to make it look like a pile of bricks.

A buddy of mine sometimes adds combat damage to the model tanks he uses for miniatures wargaming. For example, he heated the point of a punch, made a crater in the body of a painted tank, then painted the crater off-silver to look like bare steel. On one 28mm scale (1:56) tank he even dry-brushed a little rust red onto the bare steel.

The Pz 38 (T) was a Czech built tank that the Germans used following their annexation of Czechoslovakia. They were an excellent light tank for the time being a match for most early medium tanks. The Germans used them as front line battle tanks, until they had enough Pz III's and IV's in service. I built the Warlord Games plastic kit of it for Bolt Action. I don't know where I could share some pics so you could see, otherwise I would

It is quite crazy but my first 40k Ork battle wagon was a 1/48 Semovente spg. An Italian self propelled gun that looked shoddy and clunky. I built a tray on the back, hung a couple of big shootas off the side using 40k oil drums as cupolas and had ork and grot gunners. This was back in the 90's when Orks had no vehicle models. Still have it.

Nice Czech tank. Germany integrated the 38T into their early panzer divisions replacing the Panzer I and IIs in several of the divisions. Link and link tracks are very easy to work with once you get the hang of it. The trick is let the glue set up for a few minutes before you attempt to bend the tracks. When you get around to painting the 38T use a black primer and then spray white into the larger open panels to give a modulation. When you get it all painted up try using the oil dot filter which adds even more modulation to a mono color. I am about to start building the Takom 1/35 Panther Ausf G late so happy building!

I say paint the Praga 38 first to get a little practice/experience, then the Merkava. Your builds look wonderful, they are incredibly clean. However you may find it difficult to paint details such as rubber road wheels, the tracks themselves, and other items that are buried or hidden behind other parts. I would suggest using a 'paint as you go' method, where you paint parts and sections of the tank as you assemble it. I.E., painting all the road wheels, drive sprockets, return rollers and return idlers prior to putting them on the suspension, while also painting the hull of the tank prior to attaching more details.

More passing thoughts as I recall them (had your video on in the background while working). You may be able to get etched parts from other vendors. Once I get up the courage and time, I have a Nautilus kit where I bought after market etched metal, lighting, and window masking. Now, if you can keep an eye out for a 1953 1:35 Ford bus so I can add it to my MASH build... and plungers, I need like a dozen 1:35 plungers...

You can still play with fire. Make the Panzer I a casualty. You heat up some wire, maybe a paperclip in your multitool jaws and you can use that to add canon fire hole(s) e.g. a 37mm penetration in the hull.
